I am the BIGGEST wimp when it comes to needles, and I love acupuncture. It feels kind of like how plucking a hair feels (not like a needle at all), and is so relaxing and helpful.

Yup, for fertility. I love it. Helps so many other things, too. It really helps me clear my head and reduce the anxiety. I don't see myself ever stopping treatment unless it got super expensive.

@Reese: I sleep in a corrective guard thing too, and I'm getting there! I've just got to stop clenching my jaw when I get stressed out.

@mediagirl: temples, jawline, and sometimes he puts a couple inside my ears. A few on my arms. If I've been in a lot of pain or also have sinus stuff going on, he will place a couple in between my brow and the upper bridge of my nose.
When LO was breech and I was having hip pain also, I had them EVERYWHERE lol!

I did it once to try and turn my breech baby. Most of the needles didn't hurt, but the ones in my pinky toes were effing torture. I'd try it again if I felt like I needed it for an ailment, but I don't think id ever let them stick them in my toes again.

I had it for TMJ and they were in my face and arms like whoa. Oh and my head. And wrist. It felt good but my problem ended up being my damn neck and my poor jaw was just taking the brunt of it! A chiropractor fixed it. It did feel good. I went to this traditional chinese hole in the wall place that smelled like spices and they put a warming lamp in front of me

I have it for fertility and really like it. Mostly the needles don't hurt, but at certain times of the month, such as just before I get my period, or if I'm sick, then I definitely feel them going in more than others. It's so relaxing, I usually sleep through the whole thing. Some acupuncturists do massage too, heaven!

@mrs. bird: I needed a bell to tell her that I couldn't ring my bell! ;) And yes, that's the heat treatment. It was pretty amazing. I had been having major hip pain during my 3rd trimester, and that treatment was amazing. And, I don't think electro acupuncture sounds fun at all! :(

@Vegmama: a bell! that's genius! i could have used a bell a couple times, some of my appts really hurt, i would be covered in bruises :( i felt really trapped once she left the room since you can't move, a bell would have made that much better! was your heat treatment the one where the tops of the needles are burning? i did that and really enjoyed it, it was like having my core heated! i did not like the electro acupuncture, though it did certainly increase circulation.

I did it for cervical ripening towards the end of pregnancy. Honestly, it was a little weird. I thought the needles hurt a bit. The acupuncturist gave me a bell to ring "in case", but I couldn't move my arm without pain, because of the needles on the pressure points.

BUT, I think it was very effective. My hip pain went away after an heat treatment, and I had my baby the day after my intense cervical ripening appointment, and my labor was only 6 hours.

I did it for tension headaches and back aches and it was awesome. I agree, you really don't feel the needles, it's almost more like plucking a tiny hair, if that makes sense. The only time it felt slightly painful was when's he was putting it in the area that was really sore, almost like how a massage hurts so good.

I bet it could really help. I'm totally a believer. I used to get tension migraines several times a month. I've only had a handful in te past 18 months after doing several sessions of acupuncture.

Acupuncture has done really great things for the arthritis in my knees- and the needles are honestly the thickness of a hair or a whisker. Half the time I don't even feel them going in, and if I do, it's more of an itchy sensation that fades after a couple of seconds.

I highly recommend it! If it's your first time and you're nervous, just let the acupuncturist know! My first time, she was really great about walking me through the whole process and letting me know what to expect!

i don't know where they place needles for that, but the needles in my face were usually the most comfortable, ones in my scalp actually felt good! i hate needles, the small needles they use for most things are really nothing, it's when they start using bigger needles that it gets uncomfortable (but i don't think that happens very often).

but to answer the question, yes, i've done it. i did it weekly for about 3-4 months and then weekly again for another 3 months or so. unless you can make do with a community style setting, it adds up quickly.

My TMD is causing more pain right now and I want to try some alternative options. I'm curious how acupuncture is? To be honest, I'm totally freaked out about a bunch of nails sticking out if my face but.... if it may help.....
