@Mrs. Jacks: Oh boy! I'm sorry you had a bad flight. Maybe they just had a bad day. Your kids' age difference is the same as our kids. We had a bad flight with our two when we made the same trip last summer. They were a couple months younger than yours right now. But when we traveled in the fall again, they were much better. My son is super excited about planes, airports, taxis and anything that has to do with transportation. So, his enthusiasm keeps him from acting up. It's my daughter that's up in the air. I was able to keep her occupied pretty well the last time we traveled so I'm hoping the same will occur this time.

We flew with two today. I could not have done it this time by myself. Maybe it's their ages (13 mo and 35 months), but seriously, they were two badgers in a biscuit. Our seat neighbors were not amused. We had to tag team them the entire time.

It used to be easy, though. I'm not sure why it was so hard this time!

@BoogieBea: oh that's good... Yeah my husband was with me on the return flight too and it makes a world of a difference! But sometimes, no matter what, it's hit or miss anyway, you know? So hopefully you at least have a good flight when you're alone!! Good luck and have fun on your trip!

Sorry for the delayed reply!

@Weagle: Thanks for bumping!
@MungBean: I've flown with my daughter before. She's not much of a snuggler but I was able to keep her busy for the flight with random things.
@artbee: @Mrs. Train: Thanks for you input!
@SAHM0811: Oh yeah, I do remember, now, when you posted about flying solo with your DDs. Thanks for the tips! I'm a horrible packer but hopefully, I can keep things simple.

I ended up booking the flights. But turns out that the flight coming back, my husband with be with us. Whew! So I just have one leg alone to endure with them. I actually find that the most challenging part is when 'I' have to use the rest room. But I have a pretty good bladder so if I time it right, I can go the entire flight without having to go.

Oh and I just realized, our DDs are the same age right now... Mine will be 22 months soon. We are thinking of going to NYC this summer too, incidentally. Hopefully I won't be alone again on the flight, but I already know that either way, it will be tougher because she is so much more verbal now and throws mini tantrums.

I can just picture her saying, "I wanna go outside" a lot because she says that when she feels too confined in a place we are at for a while (eg. church or the doctor's office). I already know I'll just have to up my game from stickers to new toys, favorite snacks, and the iPad!!

I flew alone last summer from CA to NYC with a 4.5 yo and a 12 month old. It was completely do-able largely due to the fact that my DH took a lot of our luggage ahead of time on his flight the day before. From what I remember, I only took a car booster for DD1, the sit n stroll (carseat on wheels) for DD2, and a carry-on rolling duffle. I also had car service (as opposed to cabs) to and from the airports because we find those drivers to be more helpful usually. When I arrived in NYC, my driver was also someone we were familiar with and used in the past a lot, so it was nice that I could count on his help after the long flight.

For my little one, stickers were brand new to her and these were my saving grace. We were all covered in stickers by the end of the flight, lol. It also helped that she was used to falling asleep in my arms.

It was a 7am departure flight, which was killer, but the three of us did nap for quite a while at the beginning of the flight so that was nice.

It's definitely challenging, but do-able!

Have you flown with your daughter before? Any idea how she might do on a plane?

I flew alone internationally w/my LO when she was 9 months old. I was terrified, but found the trip to be super easy - she nursed most of the way and didn't cry once. We've flown several more times since then (w/DH) and it's become increasingly difficult. I don't think I could do it alone anymore, just b/c she's so mobile and active now.

We're planning a trip back to ny for a wedding in june. My husband has a conference that he's going to in boston around the same time so he'll be going there first. We can all fly to boston, then drive to ny for the wedding and back to fly back. Or I can just fly with both kids by myself direct to ny instead of going to boston first. I'm leaning towards the second option since it would be less traveling for the kids. My kids are over 3.5 and over 1.5. My son, the older one, has been able to entertain himself on the plane so I think he'll be pretty easy. My daughter would be more difficult though.

What would you do?
