@Maysprout: wow - that's impressive you went carry-on with your LO!

i flew RyanAir years ago, probably in 2003 or so -- and I remember that my flight from Dublin to Edinburgh was 14 dollars!

We did it! Didn't book priority or reserved seating or anything and it still was fine with our 12 month old. I'd say we had just as much leg room as our flight over to Europe on a 'real' airline. We only brought carry-ons, no luggage, and still managed to pack for 4 days with baby (we bought most diapers when we arrived). There were def hi's and lows of the trip and a bit of chaos but the flight was not chaotic at all.

Never, and never will. O Leary is so obsessed with keeping baseline costs down I personally think he can't be trusted to give safety the priority it deserves. Most airlines here are hugely influenced by the Ryanair model now, unfortunately, but he's always willing to go further- he still intends to charge for use of the toilet on board:)
You just couldn't fly with them, with children, though. That would just be insane!

Yes, and I thought it was awesome for what it was. It is super cheap and kind of a future shock for a lot of us from the good ol' US of A. There aren't assigned seats so it's a total crapshoot and it sort of a rush to see who can cut who in line to get to the plane first. The airports that they fly our of are generally the smaller ones that are less conveniently located in the city.. The one to fly out of Paris literally lookednloke a barn. Like I said, I thought it was awesome, but my friend was ready to cut me for making her fly that way. Oh, well, it was a good life lesson for her. :). I think it would be hard to travel with a baby that way because it was sort of a free for all, so I don't know that I would do it in the future, unless it were just Mr. and me.

I flew it quite a bit while I was studying abroad in college. It was cheap, which was my #1 priority. I remember my seat wasn't completely bolted down on one of my flights.

I used to a lot back in the day when I was still at uni. These days though, with all the extra costs for luggage, bathroom etc, I find that non-budget carriers can be just as competitive depending on where you are going.

I flew it in college (in Europe) and loved the cheap price! Keep in mind that one way they keep prices down is by using out-of-the-way airports--definitely double check that and factor in any extra ground transportation needed.

@gracecat: This was my experience too. Really low baggage limits and extra costs for everything. That said, it was cheap and I ended up where I was going, so no complaints from me!

It was just cheap but you have to read all the fine print and follow the rules very strictly. Everything costs extra and they will nickel and dime you if you don't know all the rules. Make sure you follow the baggage limit requirements, show up to the gate on time, follow the rules on checking in and pre-print your boarding pass, etc... It's budget and you're not treated like an honored guest, more like a burden.

Yes, a few times in Europe. Not impressed! One time I boarded a flight and then they canceled it because their speaker system was not working. You get what you pay for I guess since they are cheaper than other airlines.
