Yes, I went back to work for the same university library that I was a student worker at, just in a different department. I had left because I had a little life crisis and had to drop out of school for a summer, but then when I realized how good I had it at the library I went scurrying back for a full-time job!

I left a job for a year -- and in that year, I learned the grass was NOT greener on the other side. 5 months ago, my former boss let me know of an opening and asked me to come back... so I did!

@runnerd yeah, I'd just try to pinpoint all of the things you didn't like when you left and see if you would either be ok with them now...or figure out (if?) you can make them better. For example, I hated feeling like a small, unimportant part of my huge company initially. When I came back, I made sure to find a small group that I could develop close relationships with, work with in some capacity, etc so I could feel more like I belonged and was important.

@runnerd: Would things change if you went back so you wouldn't feel restless? Would you report to the same manager? If you worked for me and I really liked you and I could change something that would make you happy and stay, I would definitely consider bringing you back.

@KayKay: that's kind of how I feel. I didn't realize how good the company was compared to some others (like the mess of one I'm with now)

@littlek: they didn't want me to leave, so I would say it was good terms.

@regberadaisy: I was feeling super restless - honestly I think I was going through a spell - was interviewing for jobs all over country and wanting to move all together. Now I kind of see how good I had it.

I left my original job (first one out of college) after ~2 years, realized about 6 months later that the new position wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and returned to the old one almost exactly a year after I left. It's worked out great for me, and I've been back for almost 6 years now. I appreciate the perks of my company a lot more after seeing how much worse it could be!

I did, and ended up being unhappy again. I quit nine months later when I moved, otherwise I would have just stayed since jobs were scarce in that small town.

I guess my question would be why did you quit in the first place?

I have had people asked me this bc I was laid off. My response is no, as much as I Loved that job I would never ever go back. I was obviously dispensable.

I am actually going to work for my old boss. It's a different firm but same boss. Did you leave on good terms? Have you stayed friendly with everyone? I've heard of a lot of people returning to old firms and it working out for them. Good luck!

I quit a job I had for 4 years a little less than 6 months ago. I don't really like my new job and think I just had a quarter life crisis since it was my first job out of college.

I really want to tell my old employer I would like to interview next time they hire for my old position (job openings come up 1-2 times a year). Has anyone ever done this? Was it a good move? Where you happy going back?
