But last year after moving out of the city we got dragged there as a family event. It was SO BORING! Standing along the parade route is nothing like the parade you see televised. The marching bands don't perform, no Broadway acts. I went once with my mom 4 years ago. It was really cool to see in person, but definitely don't need to do it again. It was cold and windy, and I was wiped out because we had rehearsal in the middle of the night but it was pretty neat. We'd get a hotel room along the old route so we could switch between being cold watching it outside and watching it from our warm room. It was an incredible experience! I hope to take our DS someday! Every year the Universal Cheer Association invites cheering squad captains to participate. My 3 best friends and I got to go our senior year. We marched the entire parade, then performed on Herald Square, with 800 other cheerleaders. It was freezing cold (18° and drizzling rain), and we were wearing cheering skirts, but it was such a cool experience. One of my friends and I went back for the 10 year anniversary of when we were in it and had a blast. The balloons are so enormous and very impressive. LO1 has already been, but that's because we were invited to an indoor viewing one year. There was another year, pre-kids, when we were outside and had a lot of fun, too.
