@Mrs D: What a blessing to have such a reliable babysitter! I think it will be DH and I taking turns using our sick days if the little ones get sick.

@travellingbee: Nope - not that I know of from K. She is also the lead teacher in the Newborn classroom at daycare...so maybe she is just a freak of nature who is now immune to it all :silly:

Yes we have to. Daycare has a "no fever for 24 hours" rule so we have to take 2 days off work every time she gets sent home. She got sent home 3 times in the first two weeks of February so had sitters for all 3 "second" days.

Yeah, its all dependent on the sitter. We have a back-up sitter and when we contacted her we told her up front that our greatest need was back-up care in case our son was sick and had to be out of daycare. We also have a contract with a nanny agency to send over a temp nanny if our back-up sitter can't make it or we can't get off work. The nanny service said its really dependent on the on-call nannies - some are totally fine with sick kids, some will take everything BUT the flu, etc.

For the most part, our son is just dealing with a virus or the sniffles but has to stay out of daycare until he's gone 24 hours without a fever. He hasn't gotten RSV or the flu or anything yet, knock on wood. I stayed home with him when he had a stomach virus because he was puking and had the runs and I just think me or DH should deal with that.

I have left my sick baby with babysitters. I am always very clear with them that he is sick. No one seamed to worried about it.

I have also gone over to friends houses when they were all sick to clean up, cook dinner, do the wash. Everyone needs an extra set of hands from time to time. Wash hands often and I change my cloths as soon as i get home.

Our normal babysitter is not deterred by illness at all.

She has come to the house to watch K when both DH and I have the flu...

She also came this year once when K had the flu and I was 5 mos pregnant and terrified of getting it.

Come to think of it...she stayed the night with K when she had HFM at 1 year (our first trip away from K)...I was terrified leaving her...but I came home to a house that had been completely sanitized...it was amazing...

We have sick/last minute care through work too - it's offered via Care.com, if your nanny is sick or your kid is too sick to go to school, and you still have to go to work. I haven't used it for that, just to watch the little one during work events outside of daycare hours or when daycare is closed.

@travellingbee: it's a nice option to have. They pay for 75-90% of the cost, depending on your income. I'd still rather stay home with my sick babies though!

I have never heard of one but I would definitely offer to watch the healthy kid for a friend. If you are in North Texas, you can send the baby over!  @travellingbee:

DS has the flu, we have a healthy 6 week old, and I now have a sinus/ear infection. Someone on FB mentioned to me that there are sitters who will come watch sick kids. I'd never heard of that but wondered if any of you have had one. I can't imagine anyone wanting to come into a house with illness, but it is certainly interesting.
