Oh no!!!! I hope it gets better soon!!! I discovered I had kidney stones on my babymoon. It was a disaster trip at first but thankfully after a few days of guzzling water (and peeing every five minutes) it was a whole lot better. Labor was a whole lot more painful for me though.

@wonderstruck: me too. I woke up fine yesterday but the pain progressed and by 2 it was unbearable so I went to urgent care. I passed out (literally and figuratively) around 6-7 because I was in so much back pain and it felt like someone took a sledgehammer to my head. Woke up feeling better but definitely still in some pain so thinking about going back to urgent care-so it can get better before worse.

@matador84: About 24 hours...I woke up in agony, was at the hospital for most of the day, and ended up passing the stone the following morning. I hope it goes quickly for you! And I definitely think staying home from work was the right call, honestly if it's a kidney stone you'll probably want tomorrow off too!

@wonderstruck: how long was the whole ordeal?

I'm staying home from work today because I am still in quite a bit of pain but no fever. @swedishfish: def not feeling 100% at all but hoping with rest it will get better instead of worse!

Yes, I've had them during both pregnancies, and both times it was mis-diagnosed as an infection. So unfortunately I'm an example of how it isn't always so easy to tell whether or not you have one - they did some pretty invasive scans/ultrasounds and still couldn't see a stone! For me, it started as excruciating back pain that lasted quite awhile, then there was a reprieve from the pain for awhile until I actually passed the stone, which obviously was painful but in my experience was nowhere near as bad as labor pains. I'd imagine it differs based on the person and the size of the stone though.

Thanks girls. The pain is improving. It's 3am here and I crashed maybe around 7? I was just in so much pain and had a fever...all foggy! I had two natural childbirths and the pain is just as bad, if not worse!!!

Yes, with my 2nd pregnancy I had two, the first one caused me to go into preterm labor. A kidney stone is a different kind of pain, but I think it is worse than childbirth. I was given a painkiller and zofran, had to go to a specialist for an ultrasound then a specialist to talk about removing it (I passed it shortly after that). I am so so sorry you 're going through this, it hurts so much :(

Yes - ditto to what others have said, easy to detect with a CT scan. They could also do ultrasounds of your kidneys to see which is swollen (you cant be exposed to radiation if preggy). I had one 2 months ago and it was worse than labor. I ended up being admitted for IV fluids, IV nausea mess (zofran and compazine) and IV pain meds (dilaudid)

I'm sorry! Feel better soon

Aww I'm so sorry you're dealing w/this! I had a kidney stone during my 1st pregnancy and it was horrible. On the up side, they stuck me in the hospital and doped me up reasonably well, but even morphine didn't kill the pain! I asked for an epidural and they said no. :) I think chewing crushed ice is helpful when you can't keep anything down, and a heating pad on my back was nice.

If they're treating you for a stone and you're not pregnant, they should give you some combination of painkillers, zofran and something to make your pipes dilate a little to hopefully help pass it. I hope it goes away soon, such a sucky thing to deal with.

I actually have chronic kidney stones. I've been having them since junior year of high school. I have definitely had stones that were worse than my L+D. My most recent one made me black out. It was huge though & I needed a lithotripsy. They should be able to tell you pretty easily if you have a stone with a CT scan.

I had a kidney stone that was misdiagnosed as a burst ovarian cyst, so I was in terrible pain for a whole week because I wasn't drinking anything. Plus the pain was so intense I couldn't keep anything down.

Once they found out what it was, I drank A LOT of water and lemonade. That plus some percocet and I felt a lot better pretty quickly.

It was the worst pain of my life (although I haven't given birth yet!) so I hope you start to feel better soon.

I just came back from urgent care in excruciating pain. They think I have a kidney stone(s) or severe infection. Please tell me what it was like for you! This is almost worse than childbirth.
