I had lots of extra teeth so they had to extract some. I still have 4 wisdom teeth that I may have removed later. each extraction is different depending on where the tooth is, 3 of them were terrible but with the last one I didnt feel a thing. My jaw was too small for all the teeth trying to grow in so they were overcrowding. It's really not bad at all. The numbness was the worst part for me (not being able to feel my face was just kind of weird). Your dentist will likely go out of his or her way to ensure you feel absolutely no pain, so don't worry too much about that. I didn't swell at all and my dentist didn't even give me any painkillers. I just took ibuprofen. The area was sore but it wasn't too bad. The worst part for me was the shot he had to give me in the roof of my mouth to numb that side of the tooth. Just make sure you have soft foods and nothing too hot. I did not swell and I didnt go to work the next day (but I used any excuse not to go to work) I still went about and went to the movies, I even went out and got a piercing(I was 18 or 19)! However I do recommend just planning on eating soft, easy to swallow without chewing foods. It might swell if it's one of your molars or wisdom teeth. But some people don't swell at all. Same goes for pain. I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 6 or 7 years ago, and it was painful, and they gave me painkillers. I'm totally freaked out about it! I fractured it and there's no other option except to pull it. I'm not in any pain now (it's had a previous root canal), but how much pain will I be in after? And will it swell? Just curious if I'll be able to work the next day. </p>
