And I was exposed to it a lot as a kid. I still didn't get it by my early/mid teens, and by then the vax was available, so I got that. Got my booster a few years later and actually just last year had a titer done to check for immunity and its active! Happy about that. I hope this means I never have to deal with shingles. I think I remember being itchy. My best friend/next door neighbour got to come over when I had it because her mum wanted her to get it. I didn't know the vaccine came out that early! It is my understanding that the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting it completely, but just makes it really mild if/when you do get it. At a daycare I worked at it went through our infant room and kids had spots despite being vaccinated. My younger brother didn't get it from me back then. He came down with it in college, and I guess it's more serious as you get older, he ended up being hospitalized. There are pics of me with spots on my birthday. The varicella vaccine didn't come out until the mid 1990s, which is why most of us Bees never got it.. A few kids at my day care had a chicken pox party and I got it from them. My sister caught it from me. DH was vaccinated though he wishes he could have just gotten it before he could remember like me because that was when the vaccine was relatively new. I remember it vividly. I was supposed to have birthday party at school and I to miss it. But apparently I'm not immune to the. My mom deliberately exposed me to it as a kid, but I only got a couple of spots so she was never sure if I really did and it was mild, or maybe those were coincidental big bites or something. Afterwards my parents intentionally exposed me when my brothers, cousins, and friends got it, but the worst I ever got was a very mild heat rash that was gone within a few hours.
