As a result, we got a new roof! The seller's insurance covered the replacement, and we paid a little extra out of our pocket to get an "architectural" roof rather than a standard roof. Totally worth it, and we're set for the next 20 years! We had it done last year and paid about $10k. We replaced our roof last year with a metal one that's supposed to last a really long time. My DH and FIL put it up themselves so we only paid the cost of materials. Coworker suggested I call insurance and see if they covered...and now we're getting almost all of it covered through our home insurance! We saved for it and would never have thought that maintenance things like roof replacement would be covered! It was a nice surprise to have most of the $ back in our pockets!
