It's so gross. And I go in because my ear has been plugged for days and I'm half deaf. So because I wait, it's raw and inflamed and that makes it hurt! The dr uses the water jet thing. The world is so loud afterwards! </p> <p>Since I discovered that she just uses plain old tap water, I just do it myself with a sterile 60cc syringe. It was disgusting, and I could not believe the crap that came out. Once one ear was totally blocked up. So sad. We haven't needed the flush though-- they were able to get most of it out with the little scoop. I was surprised when I saw the instrument-- it does look a bit like the Asian ear pick thing! We have them everywhere but I wouldn't dare try to use it for fear of pushing it in further. The last time we got it done (made an appointment especially for it) RIBBONS AND RIBBONS of crusty wax came out of his ear. It was so gross and I couldn't believe the amount that came out. I actually picked up pieces and showed him and said "look at the yucky that came out of your ear!!" He didn't care.. he just wanted his lollipop... and when I was strapping him into the car he declared that the doctor put a shovel in his ear. I had tubes in my ears so I had to put wax in for my swimming lessons....and one time it got stuck. So they stuck a syringe through, flushed out of the gum wax, a bunch of ear wax, and my ear tube!
