I'm so sorry! Yes call all of your credit card and bank card companies right away. Banks are more important I think because CC liability is limited in many cases but I don't think debit is the same way.

You can setup a credit freeze with all 3 credit bureaus (I think this is free) so no one can apply for new credit with your name. You could also setup credit monitoring but I believe that will cost you money.

Good luck!!!

Someone stole my wallet right out of my bag in Penn Station a couple of years ago. It sucked. It really felt like such an invasion, I lost a wallet that I loved, all the pictures I had in there, etc.

My brother is forgetful and has left his wallet in a variety of places over the years. Quite a few times someone found it and dropped it off in our mailbox! Maybe since you just left it yesterday someone will return it to you! Actually- I just remembered my dad lost his wallet in Disney World once and somebody mailed it all the way back to NJ for us. There are still nice people out there!

Oh, and NEVER keep your SS# on your person/in your wallet! I learned that the hard way.

Not to be alarmist, but I had my purse stolen several years back. It had everything in it -- camera, ipod, wallet w/ cards, id (with SS#), ...everything. I ended up dealing with identity theft (actually still dealing with it 5 years later). Someone tried opening up credit accounts and filing taxes with my info. I had to put alerts on my credit files, file police reports, etc.

Make sure you call and cancel those credit cards and call the 3 credit bureaus if you think your information could possibly be compromised!

@mrs. bird: oh man, I am glad I didn't lose my keys, they weren't in my purse. I would have to go through that too! But then again, if my keys would have been in my purse I would have gone back and looked for my purse because I wouldn't have been able to start my car!

I know, I'm hoping it magically pops up! Lol.

oh no!! i'm so sorry! i haven't lost my purse before, but once i had borrowed my mom's car and left mine in a parking garage, the next day it was time to get my car back and i could not find my keys!! i don't have a spare anymore because DH lost it & our only front door key =/ so i called all these places trying to get a key made but i guess now keys have computer chips in them and you have to have your car reprogramed if you want to make a new key and it was going to be close to $1,000 for the car to be unlocked, a new set of my keys made (they have buttons to open & close the back & stuff, so not just plain ones), and the car reprogramed. i was soooo upset & spent a few days looking for them. then i found them on top of the dryer under a stack of underwear i'd folded but hadn't put away yet =P doh! so i didn't have to have new ones done, but now they are ALWAYS attached to my purse =D

i hope you find your bag somewhere stupid soon too!

I did this yesterday :( I am so upset, it makes me sick to my stomach. I guess I had left it at a restaurant we were eating at, I have called but they keep saying it's not there. I have been so scatter brained ever since giving birth, it's not good.

I had everything in there! Debit cards, credit cards, license, insurance cards, checkbook, camera. Ugh, how I do even recover it all? Anyone have any experience with this.
