When I studied in Spain, we were in Italy for the weekend, and one of our friends took so long to get ready to fly back to Madrid that we missed our train to the airport and ended up missing our flight by a few minutes. We ended up having to wait 9 hours for another flight, missing our afternoon classes in Madrid. I have no idea if they are going to charge me $100 or $300 to get the next flight. </p> <p>I did fly Alaska recently and I was worried about missing my flight. I called them up and Alaska said they allow you to change to another flight as long as you leave the same day for free. (Of course, that's if there's a seat left.) I had my husband and in-laws with me. I was able to drop them off but had to return the rental car. Never made the flight. Luckily my friend lived close by to pick me up for the night. I was really annoyed by the booking lady. When my husband and I were going on our honeymoon last year our flight was late arriving into Athens. Then we got stuck in a long line going through customs or something. We went to check into our flight to Santorini and they said they were holding the plane but it was too late to check our bags. So the lady said to bring them to the gate. We got to security and they freaked out (obviously ) because we had all our liquids in our suitcases. The lady was screaming at us, I started to cry ( traveling for like 15 hours or more at this point, I was exhausted haha. ) My husband said the lady at the counter told us too, so then they called her, it was a disaster. We finally got on the plane and it had waited for us for probably more than half hour. Everyone looked so mad. When I was traveling ALONE in Europe when I was 21!! I was in London heading back to Florence Italy where I was living for 4 months for art school. Missed the last flight to Florence so grabbed a flight to Bologna, arrived at 10pm where the entire airport was closed on a sunday evening and grabbed a car/van shuttle for flight attendants/pilots to a nearby hotel! Took the first train in the morning back to Florence in time for class. Soooo stressful!
