He wasn't hitchhiking, but I offered to drop him in town because I was worried he'd get hurt. In hindsight it was a bad idea, but I've made far worse choices so I'm not gonna worry about it now! I was walking like 4 miles home from a job interview, and it was over 100 degrees and I thought I was going to faint. In this particular case I was with my brother, so it seemed like it would be OK. I have also stopped to offer a ride to people I have seen walking along a busy street with no sidewalks, or people who obviously look lost (I grew up in a very touristy place, with lots of confused, lost people so it is not uncommon!). He said if he could do it over again he'd have called me to let me know first, but it was spontaneous. He said it was soo cold out last night (single digits, wind chill around 0), and he felt really bad for the guy. </p>
