My first ped appt seemed to go pretty well, the doctor seemed knowledgeable. I had to put in a call to the office, which I always find intimidating, and when I spoke to him on the phone, he gave me some reassurance and a prescription. The next appt we happened different ped due to scheduling and it was such a different experience, I got more of a sense that the doctor was listening to me and I also felt that she offered more "extra information". I preferred it so much we switched even though we weren't unhappy or looking. For us, trying out more than one led us to our current doctor, who I am very happy with.

We go to a larger pedi practice with several pedi's to choice from. The 2 I wanted (who were my pedi's) were closed to new patients so we tried several others out. It's the practices advice to find to you like in case one is not available. Anyway the first few we tried were not listening to my concerns. We had a lot of trouble getting our voices heard for what we know what was wrong with DS and we were really discouraged with the practice and at the point where we were going to leave. A co-worker of my mom's is personal friends with the pedi I originally wanted and when my mom told her how we felt she took it upon herself to speak to him. He ended up calling me at home and we discussed my issues and he agreed to take him on as a patient. I sometimes get lip from the receptionists about scheduling appointments with him, but it's in his chart that he needs to be seen by this doctor and I am so thankful!

yes,and I decided not to go back. What happened was that slowly after each appointment, i realized i was disregarding my ped's advice. Everything I worried about a little bit, I just got "it's fine, it's normal". And any question i ever had about BF or feeding, the response I got I knew was outdated so I disregarded it. Once L had a diaper rash once and we got some cream which was fine. Basic care. Since there were no real issues, I kept going back because she was a ten minute walk from where we live, and she was so "nice".

But after last month when she told me L wasn't gaining enough weight (at his 6 month appt) because he hasn't been eating rice cereal since 4 months I had enough and decided to go to a different ped. The whole appt annoyed me because she didn't ask at all how BF was going - she just told me he is no longer getting enough calories from BM and he should have been on solids since 4 months. Then she gave me an old school handout out about which type of cereals to start (and at what age to start other foods) and what their consistency should be. Well, since then I did my own research on why he may not have gained enough weight. Then I went to a LC 2 weeks in a row and the nurses there told me to only introduce solids at 6 months and that lack of calories was not the cause,,,,,and after the second visit, his weight was back on track! But before that happened, i got extremely upset and stressed out and felt like i failed as a mother because my baby wasn't gaining enough weight!

Anyway, if you feel this is a pattern with your ped, then I would definitely consider switching. Some people just want the quickest diagnosis and are not up to date in their research and knowledge. I also prefer someone who does not rush and takes the time to explain everything so I understand what is going on as much as they do.

After a terrible ped experience, I'd be considering changing, honestly. I'd give it one more chance, and if he's still being dismissive, I'd ask to have another ped in the practice.

Yes. I really do like our Ped, but I feel like he really underestimated what I was telling him with regard to LO's reflux (and lack of sleep). We recently moved, and I am considering changing providers. But I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I like the Ped and the practice.

I took M in to the pediatrician on Friday. Her pediatrician looked at her rash and diagnosed her with roseola. He then looked at the sore on her leg and sent me home with some cream to put on it. After that, he looked in her ears, mouth and eyes to make sure nothing else could be causing her pain. I pushed for that because he seemed like he was in a hurry and I was concerned that she really seemed to be in pain.

I was told that she looked good, she should be feeling better already (even though she wasn't) and if she wasn't any better by Monday, bring her back in. He said her ears looked good and she wasn't teething.

Sunday morning, I found 2 new teeth in her mouth.

But she's not teething.

I felt like I was being brushed aside during our visit and that he really didn't want to be there, he just wanted to get on to the next kid. It made me question if I want to keep him as our primary pediatrician (we have many at the practice we go to).

Has anyone else run into this? What did you do?
