We took a 2 week cruise to Europe with Holland America and will definitely sail with them again. The food is really, really good (and we are very quality-centered eaters, not impressed by chain-dining food level quality - it was really good food!) and the service was amazing.

It's not a party crowd, which was nice. There was a nightclub/dance club on board, as well as many different bars and lounges and a casino - so there was plenty to do. Our favorite was to hit the live jazz club for a cocktail before dinner and then hit the evening club (small string quartet) after dinner.

Also, the spa was super nice and a very relaxing break :)

We took a Holland America cruise to Alaska two summers ago. We really enjoyed it. We've sailed on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean before. Holland was definitely a smaller ship and skewed older, but we found the food and the service to be better. There's not much going on in the way of nightlife, but there are plenty of fun daytime activities. We though Norwegian was more "fun" but the food wasn't as good. Royal Caribbean had good food but we weren't impressed by the service - it seemed like all they wanted to do was sell you things.

If you have any questions, let me know! We loved cruising to Alaska! We went before we had children :) We're actually going again this summer with Norwegian. It's an extended family trip so I didn't plan it.

We just came back from an extended family trip on holland america to alaska. It was my first time on a cruise so I have nothing to compare it to. I like that it wasn't a super large ship. The service was impeccable. The food was really good! We stayed in a larger room (don't remember what they're called) because we thought it'd because easier with 2 kids. That came with additional perks like being able to eat in the formal dining room for breakfast instead of the main buffet area. We only got to go to tea time once because of the kids' nap schedules, but we enjoyed it. It seemed like a really popular activity on the ship. I had a really good time as a first time cruiser.

Edit: oh and alaska is gorgeous!

We went with Holland to the Caribbean. The only thing I noticed was that the overall demographic was maybe a little on the older side (but hey -I think that's with most cruise lines?). The food was really good especially when we ate in their special restaurants - I think some people told us that their food is pretty good compared to some other lines. The only other cruise I've been on was with Norwegian to Alaska when I was a lot younger.

My parents have and they said it was ok but they prefer Norwegian cruise ships.

Alaska cruises are fun!

I am planning our summer vacation and Costco has a good deal on Alaskan cruises on Holland America Line. I haven't ever sailed with them before.

I'm not looking for party boat and we don't have kids yet so it doesn't need to be kid friendly, I really like ships with a Tea Time and good food is important to me.

Anyone been on Holland before? Good, bad?

Thank you!
