We sat through one in Vegas last year. We were shuttled over to the place with two other couples in a really nice stretch limo. The driver told us that if we wanted everything to go quickly, not to ask any questions. So, when we met up with our guy we were polite but didn't ask questions. Right off the bat, he kind of sensed that we weren't looking to buy and snapped at my husband, "Treat me like a human being!" I was ready to turn around and head back to our hotel, but my husband is a pretty calm person and really wanted the free stuff, so he calmed the guy down. THREE hours later and a ton of pressure from two additional people, we got free show tickets and "free" slot money vouchers. The vouchers ended up only being for one shitty casino, on one shitty slot machine and you could not cash out your money until you hit a jackpot. Needless to say, we didn't hit the jackpot. Worst Vegas experience I've ever had!

My family used to when I was a kid. I think it was lower pressure back then - the rewards were things like free tickets to Sea World as opposed to a whole vacation. We'd usually get free continental breakfast out of it too. Families would come in and out and I remember it being pretty casual. I wouldn't do it now. It just doesn't seem worth it to me.

My dad owns three timeshares and is the only person I know who doesn't regret it. He managed to get good weeks (like Memorial Day and Labor Day) in popular places at good prices (he bought in the early 80s). If we don't use them, he trades them for other places or rents them out. When he rents, he breaks even for the year, and when he trades, he usually ends up doing better than if he had gotten a hotel. SIL and BIL have the Disney timeshare thing and I think they've used it once in like 8 years, so definitely not worth it in their case.

I went to one in Vegas years ago and it was not worth the free stuff. It was twice as long as they said it would be, and the tactics at the end were horrible... insulting us for not buying anything. It was a waste of precious vacation time!

Yep. No free vacation but we got some major free and discounted activities in Maui. Super high pressure - they kept escalating who you would talk to as you kept saying no. I thought my husband was caving at the end (he insists he was playing along...)! Not entirely sure if it was worth our time.

Once when I was younger my parents took us to a time share presentation in order to get the free offer (weekend away at a resort). They knew going into it that they wouldn't be purchasing or signing up for anything. They weren't mean or rude to the salesman but definitely stood their position and waited patiently for the sales pitch to end. I remember the salesman was getting so frustrated!

We got suckered into doing a "90 minute" presentation in cabo. Yes we got some free activities but it wasn't even close to being 90 minutes. As soon as you tell them that it's been 90 minutes and you aren't interested they will bring over their top sales manager to waste more of your time and then when you finally make it clear your done they sent us to another
Room to do some exit questionnaire then you have to go somewhere else to claim your free stuff. The frustration +time wasn't worth it to is I won't do it again. Maybe if I was actually interested in a time share but wasn't worth scoring free things for us.

we did when we were in vegas. we weren't going to, we were using my parents' timeshare points to stay there, so we only went because they offered us each two show tickets and $100 in restaurant vouchers. we had breakfast, then listened to some sweaty man who'd drank WAY too much coffee go on and on about wyndham, then we explained that my parents were already owners and had more points than they ever use, we use their leftover points and we weren't buying anything until after we'd bought a house. i think they knew they weren't going to get anywhere, we were there for 45mins and then off we went.

Yup! Sat through one in Orlando and then a different brand in Gatlinburg. They were both pretty darn convincing, but my husband went into the presentations with a pact that we wouldn't buy in. We did get 3 nights 4 days out of it in both places, though!

We did one at our hotel in Mexico, and it was going fine until the main lady left, got the hard hitter dude, and when we told him that we really can't afford to buy a time share, he told us that we were being irresponsible. "What if you break your leg, here?" "This is ridiculous. You can do this." When we told him, flat out, that he needed to stop he did. We then got sent on to ANOTHER dude, who kept pressing us. I tried to leave, and they wouldn't give us the things they had promised if I left before they were done. We told them they were being unacceptable and making us ridiculously uncomfortable, especially after they had promised a "No Pressure Experience". We ended up complaining to management.

Yes. A guy friend and I went to DW. Since we were young (little money) and platonic friends we used a timeshare to stay at nice place with two rooms for little money. We had to sit through a 2 hour presentation. If we hadn't been so chatty, we probably could have gotten out of there in 1.5 hours.

The presentation was pretty neat. They go through costs associated with taking an annual vacation if you stay atbhotels. Then they talk about the benefits of a timeshare.

What they don't share is how difficult it is to switch your week or your vacation at different places. Or how hard it is to sell your timeshare. Everyone I know who has every owned atimeshare regrets it.

Yes. I did a sketchy one in Vegas several years back, high pressure, husbands and wives fighting, etc, bad news.

This year we also received a free trip and joined Hilton Grand Vacations. If we had not joined it would have taken an hourish, it was really low pressure and low key and a good fit for us.

Honestly I would not just do it for the free vacation depending on the brand. They are usually offered M-Th with substandard flights. They make it a hassle to book. Wall me if you want a refferal to Hilton.

We (my parents, brother, and I) sat through one in Mexico to get free stuff. It was fine for like, an hour, and then it got super high-pressure and the guy started insulting us. Luckily my father (a lawyer) is not easily rattled and hung in there. Then some other guy (who actually was really nice) met with us to give us our free stuff, and said his techniques weren't ok (including calling us "moochers," and pretending he didn't know it was mean…although we kind of were moochers, so it's hard to be too offended). But then I did some googling, and it seems to be the tactic with this particular time share place. Anyway, it was a yucky 2 hours, but then free swimming with dolphins!
You just have to go in KNOWING there is absolutely, positively, no way you are ever going to buy. Ever. Otherwise, you'll probably buy.

What was it like?
Did you get a free vacation?
