I missed this last week! Yes, I've scratched both my corneas at the same time and it was the worst pain ever, especially because I would cry about the pain and it would make it so much worse. I feel for you.

I haven't scratched my cornea. I've torn both of my retinas though. The laser surgery to fix them wasn't fun.

Yes! Oh you poor thing. My yellow lab scratched mine with her nail (worst day everrrrrr). I got in with my optometrist the next morning but your eyes heal SO FAST that it was almost healed. I followed up the next day and he said he could barely see the scratch. It hurts like a m-fer though and I'm so sorry you're dealing with it :(

I did it my sophomore year of college and it was the worst thing ever. I just stayed in my dorm room, skipped class, and wore a stupid eye patch to keep light from coming it. Hilariously enough, my roommate had been bit in the eye by a baseball only a few days prior and she had to wear an eye patch for a couple weeks. So both of us just sat in our rooms, patches on, for a few days. ;) Hilarious memories.

I did my senior year of college, the morning before I had a final and then had to go to court for mediation b/c one of our roommates skipped out on the rent and we sued her (another long fun story). It definitely hurt. I remember having to wear an eye patch and had gel I had to put in my eye.

Ugh, that sounds terrible! I have never scratched mine but my mom is dealing with some serious eye problems and she describes the pain as the worst shes ever felt because you can't do anything about it/touch it. In the past 4 months, her retina has detached in both eyes, and after surgery in the first, she developed a cataract. Your eyes are just such an essential part of each day, that any injury to them can be extremely debilitating.

Might seem really silly, would it help to wear an eye patch? We bought my mom a pretty fab one as a 'joke' to replace the black one she had to wear. It helps to relieve the stress on your eye because it isn't actively trying to 'see', and can help it heal faster. I think?

Anyways, long story short, I'm sorry!

Oh goshhhh I did scratch mine, and it was terrible. My older DD actually scratched it with her flailing hands once upon a time. And everything you are describing is what I experienced.

I actually didn't go to my family doc, but instead went to an optometrist which is when I discovered that they can give prescriptions! I took two drops, one was an anti-inflammatory and one was an antibiotic. She also put a contact on my eye for 48 hours to act as a bandaid.

I seem to recall that it got better pretty quickly, but not 100% for a while. I had to use some thick, lubricating drops for a while or even blinking felt like I was stabbing a needle in my eye.

The optometrist actually told me that because of my scratch in particular, I would experience something called 'recurrent erosion' because my nerves were slightly exposed. So in my case, it means that I have experienced that same searing pain from time to time when my eyes get dry (especially on long flights). So I always am sure to travel with those drops (they are more of a watery gel than a liquid).

It totally effing sucked. I feel for you!!

Oh no! That is terribly painful! I did it once as a kid (someone threw a baseball cap & the brim caught my eye), but mr bird did it as an adult (student was having an outburst & he went to restrain them & took a fingernail to the eye) and it was so much worse. Did they put numbing drops in? You can't use them for long, but it gave him some comfort immediately after. Also, this is not what you're going to want to hear, but it needs to rest, your eyes work together, when you're using one, you're using both. even when one is closed it moves when the other moves, that moving rubs it against your eye lid & the friction irritates it. Get rid of all the lights (I even taped the button in the fridge down so it didn't come on when opened), order some audio books & finger foods and tape both your eyes shut (a little piece of gauze will keep you from ripping your lashes off), the pain meds they gave you (mr bird got oxy) probably won't do much for the pain, I'd suggest taking them simply because they'll make you care less that you're in pain & maybe help you sleep through some if it. You're not gonna be able to work safely for a day or two.

Mr bird has had his fingers snapped & reset them himself with little cursing, but the eye- he was nearly in tears it was so painful. You are not being a baby! Please take good care if it so it heals well! His never got infected, but it does sometimes give him pains in bright light still. I'll be thinking good healing thoughts for you & I hope it feels better soon!

Long story short (because I did write a long story and just now made it short) I scratched my cornea. The Dr. made it seem like it was no big deal and that I was overreacting.

Guys, this thing hurts so bad I can barely open my eye it hurts so bad and most of the time I am so light sensitive that when I do I have to wear sunglasses inside just to be able to be kinda okay. I called into work. last night because I just could't bear it. It is 3 am and I am still in pain. Ugh... I have taken some leftover hydrocodone from her birth (I knew I saved those for a reason!) but somehow it didn't help my eye much. (WTF? Is my eye the only part of me that is immune to good pain meds?!) I can't wear contacts (duh) and my glasses are broken (Thanks DD!) so I have no idea how I am going to work tonight.(I work in a jail so not being able to see is a no-go and the only other two places I can work are watching cameras all night which I can't see without glasses or sitting at a desk working with the public.) Not to mention the fact that I have to wear sunglasses all the time. How professional! Am I crazy for wanting to avoid work tonight too?

Have you ever scratched your cornea? Am I just being a big baby thinking this sh*t effing hurts!
