A high school sitter just pulled through for me!! So, that's now off the list of worries, though of course there are still many!

I took K to one later on during 3rd trimester (I had them routine every month anyway). It never occurred to us to bring her unless we didn't have anyone to watch her... But we were reading the "waiting for baby book" and one page was mommy getting an ultrasound and every time I asked if she wanted to go with me she said yes so we took her! She was a little creeped out by the dark room and was very concerned that I had to lay down and couldn't move. I think one time was good enough for her haha.

We purposely scheduled our anatomy scan so our 3 year old can join ... but DH will be there to hold her. I had to take LO to the doc with me, and I gave her my phone in the stroller. It worked perfectly. Good luck!!

I brought DS to one that was just a follow up after MC. I strapped him into the stroller and gave him an iPad and a cookie. He got pretty whiny at the end.

I just had another thought. K is really into stickers right now. If you have to take them, that might be good for R, some stickers to stick on all the things. I'm hoping you find someone but if you have to take them I think it's best to be armed with an arsenal of things to keep R occupied. Depending on the tech, perhaps they will let R get up with you and scan his tummy too. I've been blessed with amazing techs that are supportive if this sort of stuff.

@winniebee: this is tough - he only time LO has been with us for an ultrasound was when we got bad news so I've never taken him since. I found it distracting and he didn't like being in the pram surprisingly. Is there anyone else who can watch them at home? Or even one of the staff there (or is that a crazy idea)? Thinking of you and sending lots of positive vibes!

We brought our (then) 15 month old and he loved it. He kept pointing at the screen and saying "baby" (obviously we had to tell him that was a picture of the baby). The MFM and staff loved seeing him too!

We took DS (2.5) to mine a couple weeks ago. We have no family nearby and no sitter, but I didn't want my DH to miss it. He generally doesn't sit still well, but it was early in the morning so he cuddled me on the chair during a lot of it. Then he played on my phone for a bit. My DH had to take him out at the end, which kinda sucked for him, but he didn't miss a lot. It was level 2 and they took a lot of looks at the heart, so it took a while.

Like others said, it wasn't the worst, but it would have been more peaceful without him. It was special for him to see the baby and learn it was a girl though!

thanks for all of the suggestions! a lovely hellobee mama offered to watch the boys if need be  we still may hear from a sitter....or maybe the boys WILL have school!?

@oliviaoblivia: OMG haha!!!

@PinkElephant: we typically have a teacher from school on standby -- but she lives 45 mins away and last snowstorm had a really horrible drive so doesn't want to do it anymore. The others have kids of their own or are a lot older -- but I've sent out feelers!

@winniebee: would one of their daycare/preschool teachers watch them (either at your place or theirs) in the event of snow?

I took my then 2 and 4 year old to an elective ultrasound slightly before my anatomy scan (expecting them to really think it was cool); they were not interested for very long. I think an iPad would have done the trick, though!

I wonder if things might be slow enough at MFM due to the snow that they could send in an extra tech/nurse to help manage the kids? Could you call and ask? Assuming it's a place that knows your history, I'd think they'd be inclined to help you out (so you don't have to prolong your anxiety), and to make things easier for the t ch, who I'm sure will want to be extra thorough!

ETA: missed that DH is able to be there - you'll be fine, then!!!

We brought my 2 year old with us. He did really well. He loved watching the screen, but he did eventually get a little restless. We had him stay for the gender, but my husband took him out to roam the halls while the tech finished up all the other pics/measurements.

Totally get the no sitter/no way to reschedule for DH factors! :)

I'd just go and take them (unless sitter comes through!). You'll have DH there, and I would just use snacks/iphone/bribes as much as necessary to make it through. They might surprise you! I've taken one/both to a handful of appointments or ultrasounds, and it has been fine (and even good, in some cases!)

When pregnant with my twins, my then 2 year old had to come to 3 appointments a week - 2 non stress tests and 1 regular appointment that had an ultrasound 50% of the time. I always packed a snack (something that took a while to eat like raisins), stickers and little notebook, PBS Kids app on my phone. Some days were better than others but the nurses were generally very kind and would try to help if she got difficult.

I never did, only because she was in daycare and my OB was close to work, so I would go to my appts and then head home to work there till the end of the day. Lots of people hadn't their kids in the OBs office - not sure if they were getting ultrasounds though (my OB does ultrasounds there).

I brought my 18 month old to my anatomy scan because our childcare fell through. Basically once the tech told us the sex DH took her to run around the hallways because she wanted to investigate every cupboard and piece of machinery in the room. Not a total disaster but definitely distracting.

Honestly the worst part was they needed the vag cam and L told everyone about it for a while.

I brought C to one routine ultrasound when I was pregnant with K, she was between 2.5 and 3. I believe she mostly played on my phone and had a snack. I think you can survive it if you have to, but hopefully someone can come through for you. Do you have anyone that is likely to be homebound with the snow that you could turn to?

Worse case, I would take the boys, ipad, snack, etc and hope for the best. Whatever you think will keep your little the most distracted/occupied.

LO has been to every single one of my appointments and ultrasounds. Even had to sit on my lap for a. Lois draw once because DH was late (he was supposed to watch her). We don't have any childcare outside of daycare here. She's 2.5 almost and has been great at all the ultrasounds. I don't think she actually get it though she'll say we're looking at baby sister. DH has made it to the ultrasounds so he's been able to sit with her. I come prepared with lots for her to do and luckily none of the scans have taken long.

I had an elective gender ultrasound at 16ish weeks and DH and I brought our almost 2.5 year old with us (my anatomy scan a few weeks ago didn't take a whole lot longer for comparison timewise). DS was pretty good -- the lights being off freaked him out at first though, so make sure you prep for that part (we had told him about "seeing the baby on the TV" but forgot to mention the lights). He was happy to intermittently look at the "pictures of baby" and then pictures of himself on our phones. Overall, not his best behavior but not a nightmare either!

@ShootingStar: the snow isn't supposed to start until 7 or 8 am with snow showers....my ultrasound is 8:30. I'm fine with driving in the snow....we live in Maine. Also I'm at an extreme level of anxiety waiting for this particular ultrasound since we lost our last pregnancy around this time and my husband can't randomly take time off work. So, we are going no matter what!

I would reschedule the ultrasound. You probably don't want to be going out first thing tomorrow in a snow storm with two kids. Plus the anatomy scan takes so long and can be kind of nerve wracking, even in the best of circumstances. I personally wouldn't want my kids there because I'd feel like I would be frustrated by them and they wouldn't deserve that. Plus, I know my DH would be distracted and I'd want him there and able to concentrate on me and the baby.
