Once, I slipped while holding DD on a pool deck and she smacked her head on the concrete. We were very lucky that it wasn't a concussion. She wasn't fazed by the ER at all - got to watch TV and eat Popsicles for dinner!

We've taken Charlie 3 times! Once when he fell on his head really hard and wouldn't stop crying, once when he fell on his arm and we thought it was broken (it was nursemaid's elbow), and once when he got stitches. I guess because he's a boy because we've never taken Olive!

Twice with N. The first time because his diaper rash had broke open so bad that there was bright red blood in his diaper and the doctors office had us hit the ER.
The second time was because he got a cocktail straw up the nose. It wasn't lodged up there but his nose bled for over an hour and when it stopped bleeding he was leaking clear fluid out of one nostril. We were concerned it was CS Fluid. Turns out just a runny nose after trauma. The doctor was really nice.

Both times we drove.

Luckily E hasn't been yet....Cross my fingers and knock on wood it won't be for a long time.

My kids be crazy, yo.

We've been twice and the first time we went by ambulance after calling 911! She had norovirus but wouldn't stop throwing up and seemed to have trouble breathing through episodes. It was also Christmas Eve. Fun times.

The second time she had a fever of 104. They think it was hand foot mouth but that was never determined.

And when he was 2 wks old he was direct-admitted to the hospital for a breast abscess, but we got to skip the ER.

When she was 7 months old, she took a tumble off the couch and cried pretty hard. We put her to bed soon afterwards, thinking it was nothing, but she cried off and on throughout the night and in the morning, she refused her bottle. We called the pedi's nurse line and she recommended we take LO to the ER in case she had a head or neck injury.

She was fine. They didn't think it necessary to do any x-rays. It turns out she was just teething.

Three times. Two were related to a broken leg -- the first day they didn't X-ray everything and see which part was broken, so we returned the next day when he was still howling in pain. The second time was for tonsillitis, he had been sick over the weekend and was really sick on Sunday when the dr office was closed.

Funny story about the ER (you don't hear that too often!) -- my mom brought my sister when she was a little less than two for a very high fever. When they asked her what else seemed to be wrong, my mom, who was freaking out, said, "I don't know! She's just not herself!" So on the board where they wrote what was wrong with patients it said: Sister's Name -- "Not herself." Lol! My mom will still jokingly say, when someone is sick, "She is Not Herself."

Once, over the summer. He spiked a fever of 105.9 and was very letharic (lying against my chest barely moving) and that was after the Tylenol and cool shower. Turned out to be a double ear infection + two year molars starting to push through. I didn't know that at the time, though, and once I saw the number I immediately took him in.

@LovelyPlum: Yeah, she finally woke up yesterday with no fever - the ER doc said it was likely just another virus on top of the cold/cough. I was more concerned because of the high heart rate, but she seems fine! We've been sick for a month with a bad cold - and then this happened just as we were feeling better! :)
