It had just become a terrible environment to work. So I started going to school part-time in the evenings, for interior design. I did that for about a year and then I found my current job. I started this job during a break in semesters, and chose to take a semester off so I could focus on getting up to speed at my new job. Then I found that I didn't miss school, and did some soul searching and discovered I didn't really want to be an interior designer as a career -- I just needed a reprieve from the crushing depression I felt at my previous job. And I'm glad I did the school thing, because I feel like it (and DH) is the only thing that got me through that terrible last year. Of course... I don't love the sudden student loan debt I've incurred. But it is what it is :)</p> <p>That being said... I'm not actively seeking another job right now. I love my job, my company, and my employers. But I do think someday it would be nice to work freelance from home. I only think that way because we're starting our family and it would be nice to have the flexibility. I'm considering graphic or web design. I don't have an artist background, but I'm drawn to the visual discipline. So I'm slowly trying to learn Photoshop and Illustrator, then html and Wordpress, Dreamweaver, etc. I'll need to learn design principles and stuff like that too. I feel like I got a good foundation going back to school for a year. </p> <p>Anyway wow, that was long. After grad school, I did social work for several years, which gave me the opportunity to move overseas and work abroad. I then got into a teaching program with a not for profit organization and taught middle school for a couple of years whilst getting my teaching certification. I work in Corporate America, and while I'm a hard worker, I'm not a social butterfly nor aggressive about speaking up so I'm super under paid and get overlooked for promotions. It sucks. My hubby and I also own our own business and I love working there , but the hours are rough, lots of manual labor, and the cost for insurance is ridiculous. We also have a farm, and sometimes I think it'd be awesome to just man our farm as my job. Apparently, I have a thing for manual/self pride jobs! Setting up escort card tables, steaming linens, putting out table decor, bustling dresses, directing guests, etc. My friend owned the company so she dealt with all of the logistics of things and I was there mainly as a set of hands to actually get things done.
