@hilsy85: If you let it sit for about 10-15 minutes after removing it from the fridge it softens up really nice! I like the texture better than storebought.

Yep! We got an ice cream make for our wedding, along with an ice cream recipe book. It's really not that much work, and it makes it in like 5 minutes. Froyo or sorbet is even less work.

@sorrycharlie: Homemade ice cream with raw eggs in it isn't safe, but with most recipes you temper the eggs (pour warm milk/sugar mixture into them) then return the entire pot to the stovetop to heat to a slightly thicker custard. You could temp it to make sure it reaches the required temperature for eggs. There are also "Philadelphia-style" ice cream recipes that are easier and don't require eggs. And then of course, fro-yo (which is literally yogurt, sugar, and fruit) or sorbet (just fruit and sugar).

Oh yes, several varieties of it! It's tradition for my family to make homemade ice cream on Thanksgiving. We take turns churning the bucket outside, competing to see who can go the longest. We also like snow ice cream. DH and I make healthy sorbets with our juicer and have an ice cream maker from our wedding we need to break out sometime. :)

I have an ice cream maker attachment for our kitchenaid mixer! never used it though.

is it safe to make home made ice cream while I'm pregnant though? I misplaced my recipe book for my mixer, so anyone have any good, simple recipes? :)

We don't have an ice cream maker, but I like freezing things and blending it up in my blender or food processor to make "ice cream". For instance, vanilla ice cream is frozen banana with a dash of vanilla extract and milk. Blend and ta da! I do it with other fruits as well.

Yes, I love doing it!! I will say that the consistency isn't quite the same as store bought. It starts out much softer, and then I feel like it freezes much harder over time.

We have the ice cream attachment for our kitchen aid mixer and it does make great ice cream. The cinnamon was our favorite. I think it's definitely better than most store bought stuff personally.

I haven't! But friends came over last year with their icecream maker and made icecream for us. :) It was yummy! But I honestly prefer store bought.

I'm in the mood for some homemade ice cream but I don't have an ice cream maker.

I bought some Mint Straciatella ice cream... and it is amazing but pricey! It's somewhat similar to mint chocolate chip ice cream (which I don't like) but made with real mint. I want to make my own.

I found this recipe that I want to try, a mint chip ice cream. http://yummysupper.blogspot.com/2012/04/amazing-mint-chip-ice-cream.html
