I wanted to become conversational in Spanish--I did three things at separate times: took a class, hired a private tutor, and used Rosetta Stone. I probably didn't put as much effort into it as I could have, but I think certain languages are more difficult to learn over a program like that, and Russian is one of them. I first used it in college to improve my Latin, and it helped me ace three years worth of classes. I used Rosetta Stone again my senior year to help through my Greek classes, and then DH and I bought the Spanish set a year ago.
