If I were you, I would move and then start applying. But I am a risk taker and I must admit that it doesn't always turn out very well. Perhaps other jobs to facilitate your move and then applying to the one you want? It will be difficult but then it depends how much you want the things you mentioned. Most times we attach two very different things together. Good childhood and dream job. Both are important but attaching them to each other will make you choose one. It's likely that they're entertaining applications from all over, but they didn't advertise beyond placing it on the mandatory job board, so it makes me think even more that her reaching out to me should be a big deal. Can't hurt at all, and this way at least you'll get your answer. For sure mention your tie to the state and how excited you'd be to move back. </p> <p>You've also probably already done this, but stalk your linkedin connections and see if there is anyone in your network with any ties to the organization. We are moving out of state next week and I didn't get a single call back until I submitted a cover letter. Even though it wasn't required, I sent one anyway. I got 2 phone calls the same day I submitted it. I got my dream job a week later. I agree with the pp who said that local resumes seem to get more attention. That said, I work in a pretty niche industry and jobs at my level are few and far between. There is a position in my home state that is PERFECT. I applied at the org a while back, but that position was cancelled. They saw my materials, and the person who would be my boss emailed me personally to compliment me on my qualifications and ask me to apply for a new position they were posting. I replied and said I'd be delighted to apply. The position posted and she emailed me again to let me know it was up. I applied and sent and email with my materials to let her know. He replied with "Wonderful. Thanks." Haven't heard from her since. That was a week ago. Through the grapevine, I heard that they're already setting up interviews. Not only is this job in my home state, but it's my dream job for this career. I'd be working with amazing people. I'm kind of heartbroken. </p> <p>All that to say....have you ever wanted to move and just couldn't make it happen? How do you get comfy with where you are? </p> <p>All good juju appreciated. </p>
