I also worked at Build a Bear for 6 months, that wasn't too bad and was fun at times but I hated the schedule. I actually really like it (except at my last job when I had to climb on really high ladders to get things down--I don't like ladders). But I love interacting with people and helping them find a product that's a good fit for them. The store had been there for about 65 years and we had "house accounts" still - and I loved wrapping gifts at the holidays. It was a cute store, the pharmacists were great as all of my friends worked with me! I even did the summer after my first year in college. I still go in and visit the pharmacist whenever I am home - he is so sweet and still gives my mom & dad a discount! I did a very short stint at Abercrombie in 1999 in college - HATED it. I basically applied way too late and positions were all filled. The rest of my summers were all filled with summer school! Gosh I was such a nerd. I worked at a fabric store in high school. Crap pay, crap discount, crap job. I worked for Victorias Secret for 4.5 years through college. It was a fun job, I liked working there. Great 30% discount! plus lots of free gratis items (free bras, free perfume, etc). I kind of miss it. I used to do their visual merchandising and I enjoyed it. I also miss getting to see all the pretty stuff before it went on the sales floor and first dibs on semi-annual sale stuff. I currently sell Apple products, but don't work directly for Apple. I work for a marketing company as an Apple MSC. I like it. Its a laid back job, get to make my own schedule and my boss is super nice. Overall, I actually like retail. After that, I worked at a boat dealership and all around boating center. I didn't sell boats, but handled sales of boating accessories. I actually miss retail quite a bit. Right around the time I started, I also got a full-time job so I ended up doing retail part-time for about a year and a half. It was awesome to be able to furnish my apartment with nice things at a discount, but in hindsight I wish I'd bought a little less stuff and put more of the money toward my student loans, or into savings, or something more practical. I STILL, seven years later, come across things now and then that I've totally forgotten about and am like, "why on earth did I ever buy that?" Anyway, I quit when DH and I started getting serious, since it was really hard to fit everything in and I wanted to spend more time with him. I did two Christmas seasons (ugh) and figured I'd paid my dues! It was a pretty pleasant place to work the rest of the year, though. I worked at Ann Taylor and AT LOFT for awhile, I was a lead at LOFT and helped open a new store. I love the company's commitment to customer service, I still shop there often! The particular manager I had though was too concerned about numbers and reaching number goals instead of providing stellar service so that is what ultimately made me leave. It actually wasn't bad working holidays - it was nice and busy!
