Came back to post an update after seeing the dentist. He recommend a temporary filing til the baby is born so no drilling or numbing required. He is quitr conservative and explained that the numbing shot is also known to cross the placenta so he would prefer to avoid using it unless it was super urgent.
The temporary filling is annoying since I have to be quite careful with it but I am happy that the hole is sealed for now. Cant wait to have the tooth extracted after birth

Thanks everyone! This is a wisdom tooth that will ultimately need to be removed but for now i hope a filling or crown will work to home ne over til after the baby comes

I had a root canal done at 41 weeks pregnant! The dentist was more worried about me going into labour on her chair... I’ve also had standard cavity filled during pregnancy.

I did at about 26 weeks. They used the numbing without epinephrine...my dentist was really thorough at explaining that it was safe. When I asked my ob, they had no issues with it!

I lost a small chunk of a filling once when I was 6 weeks pregnant (stupid Dots), and had the novocain shot when they fixed it. When the dentist first looked at it, he was considering doing a crown since the filling was old, large, and had been fixed before already, but when he heard that I was 6 weeks pregnant, he decided to do the small fix instead. Not really sure what the difference was...

@Mrsbells: Not a cavity but I had that kind of numbing stuff and had a wisdom tooth pulled while pregnant. It was fine. I guess it's supposed to wear off faster but during the procedure I didn't feel anything. I would do it now.

I had a tooth chip during my last pregnancy. I waited to have it fixed. (Thanks for reminding me - I need to call!)

If you wait to full a cavity until after you've given birth, you risk it getting worse and needing a root canal instead.

In my office we always ask for clearance from the OB’s office. 2nd trimester is safest and they can use a lido without epi.

I did not. I waited. I needed a bunch of work done - a cavity and a root canal/crown. I waited on each and was glad I did. My husband came with me for the root canal b/c I had to nurse right afterwards.

I usually avoid all dental work while pregnant, because even brushing my own teeth makes me nauseas. This time I have noticed a cavity/ chip in one of my teeth and feel it needs to be fixed asap before it gets worse. My dentist said they can fix it by using a numbing agent that doesnt contain epinephrine and they are also reaching out to my OB directly for her go ahead. What was your experience? I asked over the phone if they can do it without any shots but they think that will be too painful.
I could always wait a couple months til after the baby comes but I rather do it now before it gets worse and starts hurting
