@lucy123: sorry I took so long to respond! was taking a break from the internet. thanks for telling me about your situation, and I'm so sorry we are in the same boat. I'm going back in tomorrow to see how my betas are doing, and I'm really going to push and ask how necessary it is to wait this cycle if they're back to zero. anyway, hoping you are all clear and already having luck and success this time. :goodluck:

@Anya: thanks for all your support  I think I'm in the same mindset as you were: trying again sounds more healing than waiting in limbo-land. xx

@LCTBQE: just wanted to chime in since I am going through the exact same thing you are. Started bleeding last week right before 6 weeks, had two betas which were slightly rising. Had an ultrasound and they were worried about ectopic, but the radiologist didn't see anything on Friday and now today my hcg is at 50. My Dr. wants to see it to zero, but she said since it was so early I don't need to wait to try again. Just wanted to share my experience.

@LCTBQE: I agree with @travellingbee: and you should do what you are comfortable with. I didn't wait a full cycle (and I'm glad I didn't because I conceived my daughter 4 weeks after my loss) and honestly trying again was a part of the healing process. So I personally think you should do what feels right, wherever than lands.

@travellingbee: wow, when you spell it out, that does sound like two wildly different experiences. I think I just am terrified (obviously) of this happening *AGAIN* and my OB being in an "I told you so, now I have to clean up this mess" position. but if my chances of having a positive experience are the same, I don't care--that is a wild story about your friend. definitely going to ask them about it when I go back next week.

@Shantuck: this is so good to know, thank you for telling me that. I'm going back in a week for a final beta draw, so maybe I'll just see how my body's doing and push them if my numbers go down and there's actually something to discuss. phew... one step at a time

@LCTBQE: my chemical my beta never got above 30. I had two betas and then started bleeding so I was only a few days late for AF. My hormones never got too crazy and I never felt super pregnant. With this one I told you about my betas eventually got- man I don't know, like 800 something? And I miscarried at almost 7 weeks. So I guess it didn't seem as easy peasy as the quick chemical. I know my lining was thick because of the ultrasound and I felt pregnant with mood swings and hunger and sore breasts.
I think its really up to you. My friend had a missed miscarriage at almost 20 weeks and tried (and got pregnant with TWINS!!) the next month. I just needed a break from the roller coaster. What's your OB gonna do? Break up with you? :silly: In reality it's your body and you choice!

@travellingbee: Thank you again for your kindness and support  what you said is interesting... I'm not even sure if this technically was a chemical or not. How was your pregnancy that you talked to me about different for you than your chemical--just because it dragged out into 6w?
I think that's what's frustrating me: it doesn't feel like it's even my decision when to try again, it feels like it's my OB's choice :meh: I know she has my best interest in mind, though.

Maybe in a few minutes I will be mature enough to be grateful I'm okay and just stop. complaining.

I was told just to wait until my HCG levels were below 5 before trying again. For me that happened 2-3 weeks after the miscarriage began. I did try that post-miscarriage cycle. I actually felt better continuing to try rather than just waiting. It's a really tough thing to go through and what makes people feel better is really different from person to person.

@LCTBQE: With my chemical at 4-5 weeks, they didn't tell me to wait. But with this one they did. Well, either way you decide, I'm glad it seems like a natural miscarriage and you didn't have to go through ectopic ordeal.

@travellingbee: those were the reasons they gave my after my D&C, but I guess I thought since this was earlier and natural that the same rules wouldn't apply. what you said about needing a break after two in a row makes perfect, perfect sense for a sane person :) I'm masochistically ready to try again already, but too afraid to get in trouble with my OB to mess with it.

@LCTBQE: Sometimes they want to make sure your uterus lining has gone back to normal and your hormone levels have all evened out before trying again. But I know lots of people who didn't wait. I did but it was mostly because I had had back to back miscarriages and needed a mental and physical break.

@Anya: doing well! thanks for asking  my beta dropped from 615 on Friday afternoon to 275 this morning. they're satisfied that it's going the way it should, so I just have to have one last draw in a week to make sure it's still crashing, and that's it. I can't tell you how relieved I am. my OB told me to wait another full cycle before trying again, which I don't understand--is it just so they can get a fresh grip on a possible new pregnancy? anyway, drama is over, thank goodness.

bleeding is picking up and I just passed a big piece of lining. I spoke with the OB on call this weekend this morning, and she was confident that this is a regular miscarriage going the way it's supposed to. she said with an ectopic, the bleeding will not get truly heavy like this. plus, she told me the radiologist I saw "can spot an ectopic from a mile away". I am so, so relieved. Still going in for a last beta, which they expect to be crashing, and then I hope I'll get the go-ahead to try again in a couple of weeks. I'm going to go have 4 mimosas now :silly: Hope you have a lovely Sunday.

I never really saw a lot of tissue. My miscarriage was also like a heavy period that lasted a day or two longer than normal. The cramping was a bit more painful than normal but nothing some over the counter medicine couldn't help with. I started out with medium flow the first day and it got heavier the next several. For me, I knew my hcg was dropping because the first day of bleeding my chest was suddenly no longer sore and the hormonal headache I'd had for weeks was suddenly gone. Sure enough the blood work I did on the first day of bleeding confirmed what I had thought (declining hcg levels). Again, so sorry for your loss. Happy to help with any questions!

@travellingbee: thanks for checking in on me  the graphic details: I started bleeding just before lunch, to my *huge* relief, and it's been medium-heavy since. I began cramping a bit before dinner, but (strangely?) no clots/tissue/lining yet, just regular AF-like blood. With a normal period I usually see some lining, so I'm a bit wary of its absence, but definitely glad something seems to be happening. Does this sound typical to you?

@Anya: I can't imagine how relieved you must have been to get confirmed with a normal pregnancy--so wonderful that your story has a good ending :) I had heard that about the ectopic repeat statistic--one of the reasons I'm hoping to just have a natural m/c is that I don't want to freak out that it might be ectopic every time I get pregnant. And at this point, I don't know how many more times I'll have to go through this. Since I've been spotting almost a day now, I think my numbers Monday will be very clarifying. Thanks for your kindness.

@LCTBQE: oh yes, the physical recovery was much easier than I anticipated, and I went on to have a normal pregnancy. The only difference being once you have an ectopic you have a higher risk of a repeat ectopic so I had a lot of early monitoring from 4 weeks on until the sac and heartbeat were visible. I was given the option of mex since it hadn't ruptured yet but chose the surgery with guidance from my ob in part because I just wanted it to be over. Now, if they hadn't been able to locate the sac via US that wouldn't have been an even tougher decision. I really feel for you. I hope whatever results you get on Monday make it easier to feel confident about either getting the shot or having a natural m/c if possible.

@Anya: this sounds so difficult, I'm really sorry you have had to endure the surgery. are you doing okay now? The radiologist who told me Weds that my tube wasn't swollen (or swollen *yet*, who knows) said that 90% of women respond to the shot, but some require double doses, etc. What a messy business.
Sounds like yours got further off the ground than mine so far, since they were able to see it in your tube. sigh... this stuff is so hard. anyway, hope you are well.

@LibbyLou: this is an amazing story, and I'm really glad you shared it with me and gave me that thread. so, so glad for you that they were able to save your tube. As I said above, my doctor thinks my risk is very low this weekend and actually advised waiting and re-grouping Tuesday (still in week 5 now), but if my betas aren't budging in the next few days, I won't hesitate about the shot. The OBs said they want them dropping dramatically, well below the 400 mark like yours. of course I hope that I just start miscarrying normally, but if that happens I'll make them keep an eagle eye on the betas so I don't repeat your experience. also, I think I might join some of the other ttc after loss boards after this experience--maybe I'll see you on there.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: definitely sounds like you made the right choice for your situation, although the whole thing sounds totally exhausting and sad. at least we can have wine now :) I went to an endocrinologist last month to have my thyroid tested (so did Nutella, I think), but everything was normal ($750 later...). the retreat sounds dreamy. and good luck with trying again! I'll be crossing my fingers for a solid, boring pregnancy for you. like the kind that happens to people who aren't really trying.

@travellingbee: @Shantuck: both of you, this is so, so, helpful to read, and god I hope this is what happens to me. I spotted a little for the very first time this afternoon and they had me come in for another beta, will follow up again on Monday, and then reassess. in the meantime I just have to wait and see. I asked my OB if I needed to be on high alert this weekend for a rupturing tube, and she said she didn't anticipate it because those are typically preceded by days of bleeding/spotting, which does not do that much to assuage my nerves :meh: I'm just hoping my temps/betas crash and normal m/c comes before Monday. great to know what that was like and how quickly it started for both of you, too. thank you for this.

So sorry you are going through this. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I also had slow rising betas but I didn't have my first beta until I was 6 weeks. When the number failed to appropriately rise during week 6 after the second beta, my doctor's office called me in to have an ultrasound. They couldn't quite confirm that the pregnancy was in the uterus but they did not see anything in the tubes either. My doctor's office took a wait and see approach since I was not experiencing any pain, which is apparently usually typical in an ectopic. I proceeded to come in for a third beta a few days after the ultrasound and we were going to discuss whether it made sense to do another ultrasound to check the tubes again. However, we never made it to that point because I started spotting later in the day of the third beta (and then full on bleeding the next day).

Can you wait a few more days and then do another ultrasound? Obviously, if you are aware of the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, you can make sure to monitor for pain and go to the emergency room if needed. It was a nerve-wracking few days while I waited to find out what was happening since the first u/s was inconclusive but I was glad (relatively speaking) when I was able to miscarry without intervention.

@LCTBQE: I guess I just felt like slow to rise betas wasn't enough proof that it was ectopic. It seemed overly cautious, based on what I had read. I was still only 6 weeks at that point and while my doctor recommended the shot, when I asked her I could wait one more week, she agreed that it was very limited risk to do so. She told me the signs to look for and to call at the first sign of pain. Statistically it seemed much more likely that it was just a miscarriage, especially since I hadn't had any spotting/bleeding.

My miscarriage started and felt just like a heavy period. I noticed a little blood and then started period cramps and then the flow came. I let them know and they had me come in for a beta and sure enough my levels were dropping dramatically. I was zeroed out in a week.
