@spaniellove: You poor thing! I would be insisting on a free IUI if I were you. I think that's ridiculous. You shouldn't have to keep reminding them about your cervix. Maybe you can ask that they do the IUI under ultrasound next time so that you can verify the catheter goes through the cervix regardless of who does it?

@sweetooth: Yeah, this looked and felt more like I had peed on the table! They have me lie there for about 20 minutes but it was pretty immediate after she took out the catheter that the leaking happened, so I don't think it ever made it in.

@raintreebee: They are weird about not letting you see a dr unless you're having a major IVF procedure or a consult, so it's not likely. But I did schedule another consult for next week and will definitely bring up this concern. Maybe he can at least write out instructions so that I won't be responsible for communicating the catheter type and praying the nurse is brave enough to insert the catheter completely.

@spaniellove: Can you insist that a doctor rather than a nurse do the procedure?

@spaniellove: I definitely don't think that there should be much, if any, leaking after the procedure. Unless it's your own CM and everything is timed perfectly. You lay there for a little while afterwards, right?

I'd definitely be sure, if there are any more IUI's in your future, to tell them they need to be aware of your funky uterus and please take extra care to insert the catheter all the way in there. Even explain to them what happened to you on previous IUIs and be sure they are listening.

Oh, and I wouldn't count them if you feel certain that something wasn't done properly.

Makes me want to go into your clinic and shake them up & tell them to take care of spaniellove!

That's great news. Exciting! Will you ask them about what happened?

@Happygal: I know, I'm trying to think of it as technically being my first IUI still! A couple Tylenols and some good breathing techniques might do the trick, and maybe a full bladder, which they said straightened things out a little during my embryo transfer!

@Spaniellove: that's so frustrating and disappointing. BUT! I see a good side to this as well. I wouldn't count them as failed IUIs, which would make me feel much better and hopeful. Would you take them up on the general anesthesia suggestion?

I have never had that happen but I agree with @swedishfish, I think they owe you a free IUI! I am so sorry that has happened to you!

@spaniellove: oh my goodness, no this never happened to me. They owe you a free IUI at your current clinic! That's so unprofessional.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: The first was at the previous clinic and the second was at my current clinic. The previous clinic later figured out the cervix issue when they did a mock transfer for IVF, and I'm not really sure my current clinic would have noticed at all...as it is I have to keep telling them and their response is "what kind of catheter did the nurse use last time?" like I would know! It hurts like a bad HSG so I'm taking painkillers next time!

OMG! So your first 2 didn't count, so to speak? Was it at the same place as your last one? I feel like they owe you 2 more! :(

Did your last one hurt?

DH and I are realizing that 2 of our 3 IUIs never quite "made it". The first time we suspected afterwards that the catheter wasn't inserted all the way because it was so easy, and now we know for sure because different nurses and doctors have shown me how hard it is to actually get in there with my funky very curved cervix - they've suggested general anesthesia! The second time everything leaked out as soon as she removed the catheter (I don't think she got in all the way that time either)...she tried to play it off like it was something else, but as soon as I sat up I found the whole surface under my butt soaked and knew it wasn't happening.

Have you ever had an IUI gone wrong, and do you count them?
