My ex-boyfriend and dear friend died at a music festival. The news reported that it was heat stroke, but several people that were with him or saw him confirmed that he was on drugs. He wasn't an addict or a crazy partier, but when I heard he died, I knew that's what it was, just based on the atmosphere of the festival he was at. I had gone to this festival in the past but didn't that year because it was a week before my wedding. His memorial was on my wedding day. I still get very emotional thinking about him, though two years later it is starting to feel real. At first I thought it was so weird that he was dead - it just didn't seem possible for someone so full of life.

I had a friend from college pass away after a 2nd bout of breast cancer that spread to the rest of her body. All before she turned 30... Very sad! We weren't close at all, so I never got a chance to ask her how she found it at such a young age. I know she would have been happy to tell anyone if it would help save another life.

Every year back in high school there was always at least one classmate who died - usually drive-by or other gang-related situation. A friend was accidently shot and killed by another friend who thought the gun wasn't loaded. Ridiculously sad. Another friend was almost shot during a drive-by at our school during lunch hour. Luckily the bullet hit the tree behind her. The high school I went to was a cross between a magnet performing arts school and a neighborhood school. It was a bit interesting to have artsy kids mingle with gang members and then the white kids from the rich areas who were bused in. It was like "Dangerous Minds" meets "Fame."

I haven't had any close friends die, but my senior year of high school I had two acquaintances die within a week of each other, both in car accidents.

DH lost one of his best friends from the Army 3 years ago...he was a police officer who died in a car crash caused by a high-speed chase.

Then 2 years ago this summer, a few days after we got engaged, one of his very very best friends from junior high died in a rock-climbing accident. He was (very stupidly) free-climbing (no ropes or safety equipment) a rock wall of a gorge, his hands slipped, and he fell about 150 onto a rock bed. DH is still upset about it.

Driving back from NY after the funeral, we made a deal: I can't stop him from doing dangerous things (DH is a skier, and a rock climber, those kinds of "dangerous" things), but he had to be safe about it...aka if he was going to have sex with a prostitute, he needed to wear a condom. (Not that he would have sex with a prostitute, it was just the most clear-cut, easy to understand scenario I could come up with right then). I didn't want him taking dumb risks while doing something not entirely safe.

Had a friend who, at 16, was in a car and thrown out, died instantly, because the driver was trying to avoid a drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the highway. So so so sad.

I remember in hs, a friends sister got hit by a car...she was about 2-3 years younger. Turns out we saw the accident (that someone was hit), but I didn't realize it was friends sister until word of mouth and it was on the news....

I had a friend commit suicide when I was a senior in high school, he was 15. I would pick him and another friend up for school every morning, and just remember being told we didn't need to get him that day because he had called to tell her he wasn't feeling well.

I've never lost a friend to anyone my age that I was close too, I can't imagine that feeling. I did lose a cousin who was 8 due to a freak accident when I was 19, and this hands down was the hardest funeral I have ever attended. Seeing my aunt and uncle go through that was so hard.

My husband's best friend died at 30. He had a brain tumor that was causing headaches. The doctors found it, he went to John's Hopkins, had it removed and all was well for a few days. Then, he got a blood clot in a void they left. He died 6 days later. It was an awful time for my husband. His friend that died was one of the greatest people I have ever met in my entire life. Our world was a better place with him in it. It makes no sense to lose people like him.

My childhood friend passed away in a car accident when he was 16. That was the first incident, and I have experienced a couple more also. It's just so sad. It baffles me in situations in which they take their own lives. I can't get over the facy that something was THAT bad that they couldn't see the light at the end of tunnel. :(

My friend's husband was found dead while one a business trip to Boston in February. He apparently drowned but they don't know how he ended up in the water. The heartbreaking part is that they were newlyweds and were only married 4 months. It's been pretty devastating for all of us.

Last year, a church oppa (older bro figure) died from leukemia at 31 :( it was found very unexpectedly and late.... He was such a good person and upstanding Christian leader in every way. I like to believe that God called him early to be at his side.

I've lost 2 close friends. Both were during college.

One had turned 21, then made the drunken mistake of riding home with his cousin who was driving and also heavily intoxicated. They hit a tree and my friend was killed instantly. His cousin didn't have a scratch. He now has to live every day knowing he was part of the reason his cousin (and best friend) is dead.

The other good friend had cystic fibrosis, so we knew it was coming for years. It was still very sad. Her parents adopted special needs children, so they always knew it was a likely outcome, as well.

We had a family friend die at the young age of 16. He was a passenger in a vehicle. The driver, his best friend, just got his licence and stole his parents car for a joyride and crashed it. He walked away unharmed. Life is funny.

A college friend developed schizophrenia a few years after graduation and then committed suicide. She didn't tell anyone she had been diagnosed, but I suspected because her behavior suddenly became so bizarre and she had always been such a level-headed friend. I was heartbroken when I found out.

So sorry about your friends!

An insanely large number of people passed away from my high school, but none that I was friends with. I was facebook friends with a girl who passed away after having a brain tumor, and for the longest time her sister would update her facebook. Really creeped me out.

I've never had a very close friend pass away, but throughout my 4 years of high school several of my classmates died. I grew up in a very rural area where ATVs (4-wheelers) are very very popular and I've known SIX teenagers who lost their lives on one, ages varying from 13 - 17. It's devastating. There were a few car accidents as well. One of the girls I knew well, and years after her death her mom still writes on her Facebook page every single day. It's so heartbreaking.

A year ago my brother-in-law passed away in a freak accident at home, he was only 19. I feel like I remember every detail of that day like it was yesterday, and I'll probably never forget.

You're right, no parent should ever have to bury their child.

Today a guy I knew in college passed away. I knew he was sick for a long time with leukemia and just had a bone marrow transplant, but all I know today is that he's gone, from some quick posts from his friends on Facebook.

A guy I was friends with in high school died when we were in college. He was canoeing and the canoe tipped, and they think he hit his head and drowned while unconscious.

Technology is a creepy thing because I'm staring at my college friend's Facebook page... so weird to think that the only way I stayed in touch with him is still "active". The same for my high school friend-- his computer at school stayed on for a few days so he was still signed on to AIM after he died, and I would just stare at his screen name on my buddy list.

And as sad as I am, I can't help but think about his mom. No parent should ever have to bury their child. It's got to feel like the worst failure in the world, to not be able to protect your child from the end of their lives.

Rest in peace with God now, Teddy.
