I had LASIK six years ago. My prescription at that time was -6.75 in one eye and -5.5 in the other. Right after, it was awesome. I had 20/20 vision. But over time my eyesight started deteriorating again, and right now it's at around -1.5 in both eyes and I wear glasses. I would be a candidate for repeat surgery, but one of the side effects is dry eyes, and my surgeon will not do a repeat surgery on people with dryness problems since it can affect healing. So, yeah, stuck with glasses likely permanantly. That being said, I'm the exception to LASIK results, not the rule (they said less than 2% have regression to the point I have). But I think it's still worth considering!

@AmeliaBedilia: I just got the exact same news from my optometrist! Thin corneas, -7.5 prescription. He recommended PRK, but said I would need 5-7 days recovery time where I can't work or drive. I just couldn't fathom having that kind of time this year, especially since we just planned a trip to Paris in May. After May, I hope to start TTC, and the Dr. said they won't do the procedure if you are pregnant, so I decided against it for the time being. I'm glad it worked out for you!

Yes! I got it 9 years ago, so one of the early adopters of it. I have had no complications, no blurriness, no floaties. Nothing. It's been perfect. I rec it to everyone. It seriously changes your life.

I had Lasik about 4 years ago. Best decision ever - it changed my life. My eyes were similar to yours. Highly recommend getting it done if possible.

I had PRK a few years ago. My eyes were not even as bad as some of you are saying. I LOVED it.
@Ameiliabedilia- I had bad dry eyes for like a year EVERYDAY. Like you want to scream when you wake up in the AM because you opened your eyes too fast and it HURTS like heck. Now I just have bad dry eyes every now and again.

So worth it and glad I had it done.

I had Lasik about 10 years ago. It was awesome, absolutely life changing. My vision was horrible, like 5 or 6. I was able to surf, scuba. Also, I am so happy I have it with baby and all you gotta do to take care of them on the fly.
I made sure to go to a dr. that was very experienced and personal referrals. My own optometrist went to the doctor as well. According to my optometrist, if you wear glasses for a little longer than recommended, like a month or two before you get the LASIK, your eye contracts more accurately to it's 'natural/original' shape and you can get a more accurate reading/surgery/vision. It helped me a lot. SO WORTH IT!!

I want it badly! My eyes are superrrr bad at -5.25. My eye dr recommended it because my eyes haven't gotten worse in the last three years. DH is kinda weary about it, he doesn't like the idea of follow-up surgeries and thinks it's still too soon to tell long term effects of it.

I heard pregnancy can affect eye sight, so we will wait until we are done ttc/close the baby factory before I actually consider the procedure.

I want Lasik, but right now finances do not reach that far. Maybe in a few years. And, I'm a bit grossed out by the idea of smelling my eyes burning.

My corneas are too thin for LASIK. My rx was -7, and I finally got a second opinion from a renowned optho. He agreed my corneas are too thin but said I was a great candidate for PRK. I had it about 4 months ago and it is great. The one downside is I am having trouble with dry eyes. Still beats glasses!

I had LASIK about 4 years ago and couldn't be happier. I don't recall what my prescription was but I could only see clearly about 18 inches in front of my face without glasses before the surgery.

The procedure was not too painful. The night of the surgery it felt like I was wearing a contact lens that had a tear - so more uncomfortable than painful. The improvement in my vision was immediate. The next morning I was able to drive myself to my follow up appointment. I had dry eyes for about a month after the procedure which is normal. Other than that I had no complications.

I'm so happy I had LASIK. It's very liberating to be able to see without assistance. One thing I didn't know before researching LASIK is that it will not stop you from becoming farsighted as you age. So at some point in your life you still may need reading glasses, but at least they won't be bifocals.

I'm scared to do it. I'm also concerned that I would have the procedure and my eyesight would get worse after making me have to return to contacts. Can that happen? Also my friend had it done and she has double vision now.

i got lasik, and i do think it was totally worth it for me. but your eyes are still good! i wouldn't recommend it for you. unless technology has improved vastly.

your depth perception is screwy and your night vision isn't as good - bright lights also throw you off.

it was worth it for me because i literally had mega coke bottle glasses.

btw, i do still wear glasses but i really think it's because i work in front of the computer all day.

I really want it but my eye doc said I should wait until I'm done having kids and breastfeeding since the hormones can affect vision. Plus I have dry eyes and he said Lasik can make it worse in some people so now I'm kind of scared of doing it even after I'm done with having kids.

I have always wanted it too, but the thought of it scares me! I wear my contacts, but I have a lot of issues with my eyes, so not having to worry about it every again would be so nice!

Yes! Seriously one of the best decisions I ever made. I got it done last November. I started wearing glasses in the 4th grade and I was 21 when I had Lasik. I never wore contacts because I can't stand anything touching my eyes (even myself). With that being said, it was a HUGE deal that I was brave enough to do it. I am extremely sensitive around any doctors/procedures, but especially my eyes. But honestly, it wasn't bad at all! Even the recovery for me was a breeze, no pain or anything afterwards.

Also, I put the cost of the procedure on a credit card specifically for healthcare (because my insurance didn't cover it), so it was my first big "adult" purchase. I definitely do not mind that payment once a month because it meant not having glasses for the past year, including on my wedding day :)

Yes, I did! It is amazing as I had been wearing contacts for forever. My eyes were something like -4.75? I did have to get it twice in one eye which sucked as one eye was fixed but the other was not so they were uneven for 3 months until I could get that 2nd surgery. But that was only because I had a bad astigmatism in that second eye so you wouldn't have that.

Now that we have two kids, glasses really get in the way. I really want lasik but my optometrist told me my eyes aren't that bad and i shouldn't get it (-2.75). But they're still bad enough that I need to wear my glasses all day and I can't see the computer or tv. Lasik would change my life!

Have you had lasik? How bad were your eyes? And was it as life changing as I think it will be?
