I wouldn't recommend automatically going with the cheapest painter possible, because our house was clearly painted by an unskilled painter and it shows - the corners have layers of gunk in them, there's roller lint in some places, the spackle wasn't sanded down, it's awful. A full house, (1500sq ft), all of the trim, closets, front door, kitchen cabinets, everything was about 3100. We got a quote from another painter for about 4800 and I almost passed out!</p> <p>We then got the guy who painted our house to paint DH's grandparents house (about 1800 ft) for $1000. His grandparents bought the paint, but 1000 for labor. When we got our basement professionally painted, we had a Groupon coupon and we still ended up paying about $750 for maybe about 600 sq ft worth? I thought that was very reasonable because other quotes I was seeing on Angie's List, etc. were $3,000.</p> <p>ETA our house is about 1,500 square feet but we had painted the largest area -- the living room/dining room/hallway ourselves, as well as our master bedroom. The laundry room even had wallpaper with clothes and hangers printed on it that said "laundry day." GAG me. They had wallpaper on the electrical sockets, I shit you not. So they removed A LOT of wallpaper too! I forgot about that....I mentally blocked it out.</p> <p>I got several quotes from painters our realtor recommended and they were the cheapest, the other 2 were high $4Ks and low $5Ks. One color. </p> <p>They're asking for $2100. Includes materials. </p> <p>Is this a reasonable price? I was thinking along the lines of $500-$750. At least less than $1k. </p>
