The 10 day forecast shows no rain and 72 degrees so hopefully that's accurate! Originally my idea was to do a birthday at a bar, but Olive loves the outdoors and it is unusually warm this year so we may not be able to have an outdoor party in future years. We filled bottles with glitter and those foil type streamers and brought balls and let the kids "bowl". We also did sidewalk chalk, ribbon streamers on dowels for each kid, a parachute, musical chairs with lily pads instead of chairs and a pinata. The kids all had a great time and it was nice for the adults too because ours was in a self contained area so the adults could socialize while the kids basically had free play for most of the party. We didn't bring much (it was really small, with mostly adults) but he loved "playing bocce" with his dad, uncles and cousins. We also managed to get set up next to a duck pond with a bridge, so we spent a lot of time watching ducks. We didn't live in a big city so we didn't even sign up for use, just took a chance no one would be there and we lucked out. We went at 10 am so after breakfast but before lunch so we just had snacks, no big meal planning. We brought lots of outdoor games - frisbees, wiffle ball, ribbons on sticks, soccer balls, etc. We also had crayons and stuff for kids who just wanted to sit for a bit. Plus I needed to schlep the grill, the food, the cooler, all the drinks, utensils, decorations, etc. I think food costs when I priced it out was more than just catering some pizza, sandwiches, pasta. So it ended up being pretty evenly priced with an indoor bounce/gym party. It was a park at a lake, so they swam, played on the playground and did a water balloon toss. We grilled hotdogs, had watermelon and lots of picnic food. I've always wanted to have a park birthday, but both my kids have cold weather birthdays. I'll save so much more money by having a park birthday and I know Olive will love it so much more than being indoors. We'll bring some balls, water balloons, and a couple of outdoor toys and let the kids run around. What activities did you have for a park birthday?
