We host the Superbowl every year. I don't usually do too much decor (it's mostly my husband's friends, and they couldn't care less).

For food I make a big batch of chili and 2 homemade strombolis. I also make a couple of dips (buffalo chicken dip and spinach dip) and serve with pretzels and tortilla chips. We also usually put out another appetizer of some sort. I only get festive with dessert - I make cake balls in one of the team colors (whichever team I'm rooting for, usually).

For beer, we have everyone bring their own. Buying all the food and ALSO supplying all the booze is more than our budget can handle, so since I like to cook, we opt for supplying the food and everyone else can bring a 6-pack or whatever.

Haha yes, just about every Saturday during football season!

I don't use decorations, but I put the food out on decorative trays and spread it out throughout the apartment so that usually is enough to make it feel festive.

The food I keep to one main dish and two snacky appetizers, usually turkey chili, veggies & dip and pretzels or chips and salsa. If there are girls coming I'll also buy gummi bears or M&M's (I dont' bother if it's just me and the boys).

As far as alcohol I keep that simple too. I'll buy two big bottles of vodka, several different mixers then two kinds of beer - one craft brew and one 'easy drinking' light beer. You never know what people are in the mood for but I find that combination to please just about anyone.

we have had a few football gatherings at our house - we usually keep it pretty simple, no decoration ideas, but I like artbee's ideas for the streamers in the teams colors.

For food, I usually do something in the crock pot - so you could do BBQ pulled pork with a pile of rolls next to it - everyone can help themselves to a pulled pork sandwich - that's always a hit.

We've also done a big pot of chili, with shredded cheese, scallions, peppers, avocado & sour cream on the side so everyone can make what they like.

Dips: 7-layer mexican dip is usually a hit, or a buffalo chicken dip is good.

A big cheese plate is also easy with a few cheeses, crackers, maybe some grapes or other fruit, maybe a few veggies, with hot mustard & fig spread.

Hot wings & pizzas are always good too.

@artbee: I plan on going to the dollar store to look for some Green and Gold stuff :-) great idea! Do you just decorate around where the food is (kitchen) or do you go all out and decorate like in the living room where the TV is too?

@highwire: Chili is a great idea! I have a really good recipe and it makes soooo much.

@regberadaisy: Milwaukee is known for their microbrews too, that's a great idea. My DH will be happy!

@MrsBrewer: might be fun to do a microbrew and ask people to bring 6 packs of microbrews!

Chili cheese fries are always great.
Loaded nachos.
Potato skins!

I have football plates and such that I use. Party City & Dollar Tree has some great stuff!

I like to do a big pot of chili (slow cooker or regular stove top) and then set out little bowls of toppings (cheese, raw onions, Fritos, sour cream, etc.) so people can make it their own. Add in a few other little snacky foods and you've got a party :)

I've gone to and hosted lots of football parties!

For decorations it can be cute to do streamers for your colors, those are very cheap and easy to do. Also if you have any flags or gear to put out. The dollar store has colored paper plates, table clothes, etc.

Awesome suggestions! Keep them coming!

So far, I think for the mail dish we are grilling out. DH is doing burgers and brats on the grill. The only other thing that's decided is that we are asking people to bring drinks!

We've done world series parties. I am big on dips and bar type food, which is usually pretty easy and cheap. And then some veggies to keep blood vessels from clogging. If you provide all food, you could ask others to bring beer/booze, which is the costlier stuff. This could be an opportunity for you to go pinterest crazy!

To keep costs down, what about ordering/making a bunch of mini-sandwiches/burgers (from Costco/Sam's) or pizzas with aside of pasta or regular salad, chips and dip(s) and tell everyone it's BYOB and that they're welcome to bring whatever else they'd like. People normally help bring chips and dessert so we have an overwhelming amount of leftover food.

My husband and I are hosting a Packer/football party this weekend...and kind of just a house warming party just to get everyone over and have fun!

I kind of want to go all out with fun snacks and stuff and cute decorations. Buuuut on a low budget.

Have you hosted any football/sports parties before? Any fun ideas?
