7mo pp and I still have not looked! I know I had a second degree tear + stitches but that is all. I don't even know how many stitches I had. It feels fine now and really that is all I want to know. The 'frankenvag' would have killed my spirits!

They offered me the mirror during delivery, but I declined. I really didn't think it would help.

I looked down there about 10 days pp because I thought one of my stitches had opened. It was not for the faint of heart! And I was still so swollen, I had no idea what I was looking at/for, so I went back to the OB, anyway (everything intact).

I did when I got home from the hospital and cried. I had over a hundred stitches and it was like Franken-vag. For a while I had granulation tissue, really gross (and scary at first), finally a year later and you'd never know the traumatic event that took place at the site. Actually my OB (she didn't deliver me) didn't even know from looking that I had a mediolateral episiotomy when I went for my yearly exam, she was reading my chart and was like, wow. It's a miracle.

@tororojo: I thought 'no way' about a mirror before labor --- but after pushing for 3 hours and still no baby, they brought in the mirror for the last 2 hours and it was extremely helpful! I also got to see our baby come out and that was amazing. Definitely helped me push better!

And yes - I have looked!

Last I saw was when I was pushing DD out as I had a mirror (@tororojo: the mirror is the best thing ever - like you, the thought of it grossed me out but the MW brought it out to assist with pushing. Not only was it super effective, but watching my daughter come into this world was the most amazing experience of my life and I can't believe I nearly missed out on that once in a lifetime opportunity! To be fair though, I had an epidural and couldn't feel a thing so I was able to enjoy watching her come out. Just my two cents!)

DH says he can't see any differences so I'm assuming everything looks normal and is just fine!

@tororojo: I went in planning to have a mirror. I had a long shitty labor and puked all over the place. When I was ready to push, though, I was overcome with a feeling of power and beauty and general womanly awesome-ness. They started to position the mirror, and I was like, no, thank you, let me preserve the illusion that I'm not covered in vomit.

Yep I did after a few days and kept checking - I am glad I did because it clued me in to the fact that something was wrong the first (stitches had become infected & pulled apart) and second (granuloma scar tissue developed) time since there were visual clues. Otherwise I would've continued thinking it was pain I just needed to push through - and it wasn't! Finally feel fine & look normal now :)

Hehe, I have wondered if I'll be brave enough to do this after birth. Today my doc mentioned that I'll have the option of a mirror while pushing and I'm trying to decide if I would be horrified or helped by it.
