@banana: yeah find an insert that comes with a train.. You get the "Thomas the train 2013 collection" paper.. My DS sits at the dinner table and memorizes it while he eats, haha. And we point and say.. Show me where Spencer is.. Where is "butch"? Etc..

Well he's whiny to begin with so it's hard to say, but I don't like him pointing at the TV whining "babbababab" (bubble guppies)

Yes, we've recently had some issues with tantrums when he asks to watch a shows and we say no. He will continually ask over and over and over. It's awful! I wish I could just remove him from the situation but our TV is in our livingroom and we live in a small apartment. I wish we had a separate play space for him!

@Andrea: yep! Whiny! I let her watch a few one day and thought, "hmm cute little 4 min episodes." And then whammo! She's addicted and wants to talk about it all the time even though she hasn't watched an episode in my house for 3-4 months. I think her nanny is sneaking some episodes in. Haha. She's only 2 and 3 months. How can she remember!!!

@T-Mom: Oh good idea! He's always asking me "who's that? who's that?" in all of his books and I have no clue. I only know Thomas and Percy???

@mrbee: crazy!

@banana: aww, that is tough for you! So far the girls are pretty good together. DD will take stuff away from the baby but then give it back when I tell her. And I haven't shown DD any movies so she doesn't know any of those characters either, but it hasn't been an issue with school friends so far!

@IcebergMom: someone told me that Caillou was very whiny so I haven't put it on! Is that true?

@banana: my DS loves Thomas even without watching the show... He learned all the characters by memorizing the names from this insert that came with his first Thomas train... So if you want him to know Thomas you could still do that?

@Andrea: The only downside is that whenever his friends at school pretend they're a character, my son has no idea who they're talking about. My son has never seen an episode of Thomas but all of his friends talk about Thomas all day long. DS comes home asking me who these characters are all the time. He's never seen a movie, so he doesn't know the Cars characters or Toy Story characters. I feel like he's kind of missing out! I try to buy the books instead but it doesn't seem the same, especially when the other kids are reciting lines from the movies. :(

I notice that Lala has a harder time falling asleep on evenings where she's watched a video. I really don't like it, and that's the sole reason why we've cut down Sesame Street to only nights where she doesn't have school the next day.

I agree with everyone above. Behavior was much improved after we cut out tv... Less whining for sure! More independent play.

Not bad behaviour but I had I pull the plug on caillou because:

1. She imitates the Leo character and runs away shouting "you can't catch me!"

2. She talks about scary monsters in her room after caillou does in his room. Grr

3. She talks about a scary dragon coming into her room. It has to be caillou but I haven't figured out the episode!!

@Andrea: Ummm not really. lol. He gets really possessive with his stuff. If she tries to steal something away from him, he'll look frantically around the room for something to give her so that she goes away. He has moments when he plays with her (peekaboo) and he likes to feed her food. But other than that, he doesn't really treat her like a playmate. Do your DD's play well together?

YESSSS!!! We cut out all screen time starting last week and it's been so much better. Less whining and he can entertain himself for much longer periods. He used to watch 1 or 2 episodes of Disney Jr every night (or 1 episode plus 15 mins of iphone). It's been a week of zero screen time and it's made such a huge difference. I'm going to try to continue this for as long as possible.
