I have noticed that the fabric makes a big difference. I have a bunch of stuff from LOFT and some of it looks great even 1-2 years later and some looks like crap after 3 washes and is pilling. I don't really know how to tell before I buy it whether it is going to be good or not. Like you, I wash everything in cold, gentle cycle with Free & Clear and it is hang dried.

I've noticed lately that my clothes are wearing out a lot quicker than they used to. After just a few washes, my shirts look stretched out, have pills, and just generally look worn out. I wash everything in cold, gentle cycle, with free and clear detergent, and usually hang to dry instead of putting them through the dryer.

Are clothes just cheaper quality now? Most of my stuff is from the Gap or Banana, with some Target thrown in. Or am I doing something wrong?
