DH: He had hand surgery to fix trigger finger syndrome. He was awake for the surgery and only had local anesthesia. Oral surgery as a kid to remove an extra set of canine teeth (weird, I know) Wisdom teeth 4 eye surgeries to reconnect my retinas Lump removed off spine/neck Appendectomy Lumpectomy (breast) Septoplasty (to fix a deviated septum, and I still can't breathe) D&E C-section Yea, so 12. I've only had a hysteroscopy and IVF egg retrieval with twilight anesthesia. My DH has had so many surgeries since his accident, ugh! He had 4 brain surgeries total and orthopedic surgery on his leg. I was so used to the surgery process that by the time he had his sperm extraction surgery I was less nervous about his well-being and more nervous that wouldn't find any sperm. They had to break both jaws, move one forward, one backward (I had an underbite), and now I also have an artificial chin! My mouth was wired shut for 8 weeks. That was a fun summer! I've also had wisdom teeth removal and LASIK. Most recently in the fall when I had to have a tube removed following an undetected (and therefore ruptured) ectopic pregnancy. I would say that it was way scarier for me to go into the OR now that I am a mom than it was before. It was an emergency surgery so I didn't have time to think of much, but I had a little cry and message that I wanted my husband to tell our kids should something go wrong. I was freaked. My husband was able to stay calm and planned a business trip while I was in surgery. We live in CA so the most nerve wracking part about it was worrying that we'd have an earthquake and the neurosurgeon would accidentally cut a nerve! But it was totally uncomplicated in the end. I've had a kidney transplant at 12 and 2 subsequent surgeries for complications the following year. I also had surgery to place a dialysis tube prior to the transplant, after my kidneys failed. Plus a c-section with my son under general anesthesia. I had three as a child- one I'm not sure on the details but it was relating to colon/intestinal issues, one they cut out some of my colon and I had an ostomy bag for a few months, and then a third one when they reversed it.
