After DH and I saw it, I told him I felt like it was the kind of movie that little kids would enjoy - they should be able to relate to the feelings, and then watch years later and be like "ooooh I get this movie now!". I moved from Minnesota to a big city when I was 11 so it greatly mirrored a painful time in my life. It's good for all ages, but really great for 6 yo and above, I think! Riley is 11 yo in the movie, but my 7 yo could relate to all of the emotions and some of the situations. My 4 year old still enjoyed the movie though and so did I! We love all the characters :) The movie was really well done. It's cute! The concept/theme of the movie is pretty advanced for lil kids. They teach different morals/values and how our psyche and personality grows from what we learn at a young age and how they can fall apart due to different scenarios happening, then how we can rebuild it. It's also kind of a nudge nudge to parents on how to look at raising kids and figuring out what could be causing the bad behavior in a kid and how to "fix it". It was DD's first movie at the theatre at 2.5. While I don't necessarily think that she "got" it, it held her attention the whole time.
