I can only assume this sort of product would make RE's crazy. I'm sure they have a million women running in freaking out that they've been trying for one whole month and they still aren't pregnant and the test says they are infertile!!! Thus keeping the REs from meeting with patients who really need their help.

Erg, I can't even imagine...people shouldn't be testing their FSH at home! You see how hard it is to interpret OPKs with that kind of "darkness of line" method.

@BakerBee: @Sunshine1810: I thought the same thing. My first impulse was, whaaaaa? Then I looked up what information it offered, and while I think knowing that information is good, I feel like you need a doctor to interpret it.

I will say, though, that I like that their commercial mentions that 1 in 8 couples suffer from infertility. I know it is in an effort to sell product, but I'm all for anything that promotes IF awareness!

Oooh I don't think I like that. Like @BakerBee said, I would be worried about user error. Also, how accurate are these things? I would hate couples to get needlessly worried.

That's very interesting. I just read about it on their website - I question the accuracy and the risk of user error. Also, while I am a big believer that knowledge is power, I think this information alone cannot necessarily tell you the complete picture. For instance, sperm analysis is more than just quantity of sperm - it's also motility, morphology, etc.

I agree that it could encourage some to get help earlier, but couldn't it encourage some to keep putting it off?

So ads for this product keep coming up on my Pandora station:
http://www.eptfamily.com/products/complete-home-fertility-kit

I'd never heard of it before, but it seems to monitor your CD3 FSH levels and sperm concentration for men. It's an interesting idea in that it gets information about IF out there, but I wonder how accurate/really helpful this kind of OTC test is. And obviously, it's no substitute for a doctor, but I wonder if it would convince people to get help sooner?

What are your thoughts?
