They definitely look slightly different. And our Kallax is much shorter than the Expedit! I don't know if I just selected the wrong one? The Kallax looks different too....stockier? I'll take a picture when LO wakes up from her nap and compare.</p> <p>But otherwise they look virtually the same. I really can't tell much of a difference between them - the dimensions of the cubbies (for baskets, etc) seem really close, if not identical, and can accommodate the same types of baskets/drawers. My husband didn't notice a difference in assembly, either. Also I don't know what they mean about the parts being glued together better, I'm pretty sure the Expedit and the Kallax went together the same way. They are almost exactly the same as the old Expedits (I have 2 Expedit shelves in my living room). I think the outside boards are slightly thinner? I could measure if you'd like. Not sure about any "kid friendly" additions either... they use all the same parts as far as I remember.
