We are leaving for our first road trip today. I'm extremely nervous and I don't think it's going to go well. She's almost 3 months and has been screaming blood murder the past few days to begin with.

We drive a few times year to visit my family who live 7-8 hours away. Then we drive to Toronto, about 2 hours away, often as well.
Her first was at around 8 weeks. I call my toddler my little road trip champion. She does really well in the car. Baby sister has been on one so far and did really good as well!

My parents live 3-3.5 hours away and my in-laws live 1.5 hours away. DS is usually pretty good on these trips. He either naps or watches Mother Goose Club when he's bored. Or I'll sing songs while he does the motion to them.

We took a road trip with our friends last July 4th from Dallas to Houston to New Orleans to Pensacola then back to Dallas. He did great!! Everyone was amazed. lol

We regularly drive 2-3 hrs to visit family. We try to time it during nap time and they do fine. We also drove them from Illinois to Kansas and back again in a long weekend when they were 5 months old. I was dreading it, but they did awesome! I say between them and entertained them with a pile of toys (including the iPad when things got desperate).

We did a 7ish hour trip with one stop from CT to Buffalo NY in December @ 23 months.. He did SO well the way there and not so much on the way home. I was pretty proud of him though, all things considered

3-4 six/seven hour trips every year. A few shorter trips too. One trip with LO 1 was kinda hard with lots of crying but the other trips went well!

We have done lots of short trips and a few longer ones. So far everything has gone well! For long car rides I usually sit in the back with LO and he often sleeps. He's 11 months.

We've done several 8 hour (each way) trips from NYC area to Toronto area, some smaller road trips like NYC-Rhode Island, or NYC-DC. One NYC-southern Virginia trip. And then 1 dumb NYC-middle Georgia trip. I wouldn't do that one again because it was 2 days of driving 10 hours or so each day, both ways...and it really cut into the time we spent with my family.

But LO was mostly fine through all of those--I mean, we've definitely had our moments where she wouldn't sleep in a hotel room because of the new environment, but nothing that would keep us from trying it again.

We've only done a few since we don't have a car. I don't really like road trips with young LOs because mine are not used to being restrained in car seats so they get upset and scream not long after we start driving.

We've done a bunch with DD1 and just a couple with DD2.
When DD1 was 12 months we drove to Florida from Canada. She did so much better than I expected. Screentime and French fries saved the day. I also learned to appreciate the play place. Never thought I'd pick my dinner location based on which fast food joint has a playground.

My in-laws live about 4 hours away so we drive to visit them once every few months. We usually drive during her sleep times (Late Friday night and nap time on Sundays).

This trip for Easter will be one of the first times not during her usual sleeping timestimes since I am hopefully getting off early on Friday.

It should be an adventure! She's pretty easy going regardless, so I'm not super worried.

Have you taken a road trip with LO or do you regularly visit relatives that live far away? How does your LO do?
