I had it and thought it was fine but it killed my sex drive (all BC does that to some degree for me though unfortunately). I had another friend that was on it and went off of it for the same reason. I think everyone's experience is different though. For convenience reasons I think it's a lot easier than remembering to take a pill everyday.

I did nuvaring for years and had no problems except low sex drive. It never came out, I didn't have dryness (actually had more cloudy cm), and I didn't get pregnant. Also, I highly recommend using a tampon applicator to insert it, that was always a little tricky to me.

I think everyone just has to try different things until they find what works for them. For me NFP is by far the best method, but I had to try a few things to figure that out.

I didn't like the Nuvaring. I was on Yaz at first, which was fine, but then as soon as I switched to Nuvaring (because I thought it'd be more convenient), I became very dry and had a significantly decreased 'drive.' In two years, it only fell out twice, but it wasn't a big deal. DH didn't notice it. When we're done having kids, I'm definitely gonna go back on Yaz!

I LOVED Nuvaring. No real problems outside of typical hormonal BC (lower sex drive being my main complaint.) I never had it fall out or anything. No pregnancy with it.

@Anagram: I did notice a little dryness down there after a couple months. My OB suggested using Pink lubication, which is an oil based lube. I didn't mind using that extra lube to DTD.

I have actually used BOTH the Mirena and the Nuvaring, and you're right, when the Mirena works, it works perfectly. BUT it definitely was not for me. I had non stop period/spotting for the whole time i had it in (about 6 months) and the high hormones in it kinda made me depressed and super moody all the time. YES, i never got pregnant (i was never in the mood and the non stop periods didnt help matters either), and YES, i never had to think/worry about getting pregnant. but would i try it again: NO!

The Nuvaring on the other hand was easy and drama free for me. I had it in for about 2 years and it came out once after DTD, no big deal. i figured i didnt push it in far enough. I loved that i finally had control of my periods because you can manipulate whether or not you get a period that month just by stacking (Replacing it with a new one immediately after 3 weeks or keeping one in for 4 weeks).

All in all, YES, i would go back to the Nuvaring after i'm done having my kids or maybe look into getting the non hormonal IUD.

*Sorry for the Novel.....Maybe include a poll?

Nuvaring was far and away the worst form of BC I ever tried (and I feel like I tried almost everything oer a 5-year period before I just started doing the pullout mathod, correctly I mean).

Having said that, my body does not deal with hormones well (hello, horrible morning sickness!) and that's why I have tried so many types of BC.

The nuvaring made me dry "down there", made me completely lose my sexual appetite (which was truly the scariest thing for me, because the difference was dramatic from my usual self), made sex painful (maybe the dryness), gave me horrible days-long headaches that didn't respond to OTC medication, made me have nightsweats, dizzy spells, and nausea. Seriously.

I mentioned all of this to a friend at work who was also on it and loved it, and she said she experienced the same but "got used to it". She also said it made her cry a lot more.

I went home that night and had my boyfriend at the time take it out (because I couldn't reach it!). I felt back to normal about 48 hours after removing it, and my weeks-long headache disappeared.

Worst ever!

Having said that, all BCs have different reactions (or none at all) depending on the person. I really liked the patch back in the day (exact the grimy ring it left on my skin), but lots of people didn't like that.

I used it and I loved it!! I never had problems with it coming out, and I had the least side effects than any other BC I tried. I actually lost weight on it, instead of holding on to it.

It was my favorite of all BC that I tried. I'm anti Mirena-like BC. I never had any problems with NuvaRing, and I had lots of side effects from others. And I never got pregnant, nor did it ever come out during sex.

@Mrs. Bee: It doesn't impact the effectiveness if it comes out during sex as long as you put it back in pretty soon afterwards, but it was just a pain to deal with.

I've used it for a while now, probably over a year...maybe 2? It's really nice to not have to remember to take or do something every single day. You need to be somewhat of a calendar person to remember to take it out after 3 weeks. I have a mild planner obsession so that part was easy for me.

@Lawbee11 is right...it will sometimes come out during sex or just get in a uncomfortable place during all the action making some positions not feel so great :) You are allowed to take it out for up to a couple hours so you could always take it out and put it back in after DTD. My husband can also feel it while DTD but he said it has never bothered him enough to ask me to take it out or switch to a different BC.

@Mrs. Bee: The nuvaring fell out about 2 times while I had it for over 2 years. It says on package that if it falls out that you have about 3 hours to put it back in without any issues. After 3 hours, they say to insert a new one or wash the one you have and then insert it.

http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/faqs/index.asp

BTW, I thought my DH could feel it. He said he couldn't.

I didn't have any issues. Out of all the BC I've done (pills, depo and nuva), I liked it the best.

I used it when I was younger and liked the convenience, only I didn't know it was a lower dosage. The problem was that I'm also on a seizure med that interacts with BC and Nuvaring was just low dosage enough that I ended up getting pregnant...and had a m/c.

@Mrs. Bee: I know! I think her daughter was only 6 months old or so and then she found out that she was pregnant. They were never planning on a third child, but there you go!

I've heard some stuff about Mirena, but I think I'm still going to go that route for bc.

I used nuvaring for about a year, and I didn't like it. It was nice to not have to remember to take a pill everyday, but it almost always came out during sex!! That was so annoying. And sometimes it would come out and I would have to go on a scavenger hunt after DTD to find it.

I'm too scared to try Mirena because of all the horror stories I've heard. When it works it works great, but when there are issues they are huge!

So my gp recommended the nuvaring. Have you tried it? Do you like it? Is is easy to use?

We are done having kids for sure so I want to be sure we have the right birth control!
