@castilrm: wow great, glad you’re feeling better. I live near the fires too so that’s not helping. I haven’t been to the doctor yet but sometimes I do have a similar feeling with the bubbling in the lower right ribs. My husband thinks I’m imagining it. It’s usually just noticeable when I’m laying down. Planning on making an appointment soon.

@turquoisemama: I did both! The X-ray was mostly fine but showed lungs were hyperinflated, potentially a fluke on the X-ray (from taking too big of a breath before the X-ray) or potentially asthma caused by reflux (based on some GI symptoms I was having) or allergies (I also live in an area with a lot of wildfires right now so my allergies have been awful lately). I’m doing a pulmonary function test tomorrow to confirm if the hyperinflation is from asthma or another underlying issue, but my symptoms are starting to improve on the combination of Singulair, inhaler (2x per day) and Prilosec for reflux. No side effects from the Singulair so far. I’ve been sleeping better, and my chest is less congested/bubbly in the mornings this week, and less right sided rib pains. I’m hoping this solves the issue and I don’t have to do more testing after the PFT, although I may double check to see if I have any gallbladder or liver issues based on the right sided pain I was having before the Prilosec. Have you been feeling any better?

I have very severe asthma and actually starting taking Singulair when it was still in clinical trials back in the late 90's - it has been an actual miracle drug for me and has changed my life! I've been taking it for over 20 years now with no side effects.

I used it when my allergic asthma was not well controlled and I don't remember any particular negative side effects but its been more then 12 years since I was on it. However I also don't remember it being amazingly helpful for my asthma as I still had to use my rescue inhaler frequently.

I have used singulair seasonally for many years now and have no side effects. My allergies in the fall are bad enough to induce asthma attacks without it. I haven't had to use my rescue inhaler once while using singulair.

My husband used Singulair seasonally for bad seasonal allergies for a few years and didn't have any side effects. I think it helped him, too - the allergies were so bad he was wheezing, but that and an antihistamine controlled his symptoms well.

I have used it in the past and had no issues just a day or so of feeling a little shaky when I stopped taking it.

My DD2 has been taking it for 2 years each winter now to prevent bronchitis and she doesn’t experience any side effects either.

@bhbee: I’ll let you know if it helps! I’ve had seasonal allergies for years (and also take multiple meds that seem to be decreasing in effect lately), but they seem worse than usual this summer. I’m not sure if whatever I had in March caused my allergy symptoms to worsen somehow, but really hoping this will help so I can stop worrying about it!

I’d be on the lookout for side effects but I think they’re still fairly rare?

Both my older kids have tried it. My oldest took it seasonally for a number of years with no issues. That was before the black box warning but of course still could have caused the issues!

I remember the allergist said it tended to be a miracle drug for certain kids, and then did nothing for others. If that’s also true for adults could be worth testing out the benefit and seeing if it’s worth a risk.

I’m actually super interested in if it helps you because I’ve had similar issues since a bad respiratory virus/bronchitis in March (I also have bad allergies which I already take multiple meds and shots for, but this changed my lungs. I gave blood a few weeks ago though and no covid antibodies).

@castilrm: I took it in high schand college for asthma exacerbated by seasonal allergies. I didn't experience any side effects. My co-worker's 7 year old daughter has also taken it for a few years with no side effects.

Ive been having some annoying morning respiratory symptoms ever since getting over a bad cold in March. Basically I get weird bubbling in my lower right ribs when I breath in and out after lying down for a long period of time (ie nighttime) and occasionally get some congestion in my chest during the day. No shortness of breath or other symptoms. I have a chest X-ray later this month and follow up with my GP but she assumed it was inflamed airways from seasonal allergies that isn’t responding to my usual allergy meds, and has suggested I try Singulair. I was reading the side effects/reviews online and have freaked myself out with the stories of folks who had bad side effects, including neuro and emotional issues after taking a few doses.

Just curious if anyone here has used it and what your experience was? Thanks!
