My dad's entire big family is there and I really enjoy going back. I've brought DH twice and he enjoys it too, even though he doesn't speak the language. His family is from China/Hong Kong, and he has only been there once as a kid. I'd love to though! Hubby's parents are from Cambodia and he went to visit many years ago. We'd go back occasionally growing up for family events, ceremonies, pow wows etc. the Rez he considers his hometown was designated as the poorest county in the nation. It can be weird going back since we didn't grow up around that sort of poverty and my Dad quickly adapts back into the Rez lifestyle and speech while my brothers and I stuck out like sore thumbs. It felt like a once in a lifetime trip, I doubt I will go back. It was bittersweet to see the separation between the rich and poor, for a country with so much natural beauty there should be less people living in rundown houses. I finally went back when I was almost 30, and have been back twice since then. Love it and even brought DH with me after we got married (his 2nd time). His parents are from Hong Kong and I've gone there with them twice as well. We would definitely take our kids to both in the future! Maybe we'd wait until they were grown enough to walk on their own and could follow directions. He moved here when he was 4 and 3 years ago he went back with his parents for the first time since they had left! He said it was a really eye opening experience to see how things are there (much different than the US, much poorer and less developed in parts). I'm sure we will take Olive and Charlie there one day as I have a lot of family there. Mr. Bee is Japanese-- he lived there for a little while, but I've never been. I can't wait to visit!
