@Ardently: I've heard of those- they are cute! And they would help you to minimalize.... but I still don't think I could do it. Especially with hubby. And then you could never entertain, I love having people over.

Other than in college, I have never lived in a studio, but my husband and I live in a very small one-bedroom apartment. I lived there alone for 4 years, and we have lived there together for 3 years (7 years total), and people were amazed that we were able to make it work for both of us. We have to be very efficient with our space (e.g., I really want to buy a slow cooker, but literally have no space in the apartment for it... so we have to wait), but I would rather do that now -- before we have kids -- and be able to live in a neighborhood that we love and can walk to anything. Someday we'll need more space and we'll probably have to move to a lower-cost neighborhood, and I think I will really miss our teeny apartment.

I could do if if I was loving alone, but not with my husband. We need our own space, especially when we get upset at each other.

No way. Before we bought our house, we lived in a one bedroom apartment (so bigger than a stuido), and it was no fun. There was nowhere to go to escape if I just wanted to be alone and I felt like we were busting out of it with just the two of us and our puppy. Then, we bought a three bedroom, one bathroom house and now I don't think we'll last too much longer (and by that I mean we probably have another 5 years to go) in this house because it's starting to feel small! I'm sure it will only feel smaller once the baby arrives, too!

My first apartment after graduation was a studio with a small separate kitchen and good-sized bathroom. There was a nice walk-in closet, too, which eliminated the need for a dresser, which was nice. So all that was in the main room was a futon, bookcase, desk, tv, and small table with two chairs. I absolutely loved the minimalism of living in one room. Rob Sr. and I basically lived there together for about a year. I loved it!! We even got two rabbits and had a huge cage in there for a while.

When we first got married we bought a 1 bedroom condo, about 620 square feet, which was also comfortable. Funny because now I can NOT imagine living in less than 2000 square feet.

My first apt in NYC was a studio and it was just fine and dandy. NY has so much to offer, you don't really spend that much time indoors anyway. Now we live in an 800 sq ft 1 bdr which is palatial to us. When LO arrives, I hope it will still feel roomy haha.

In college my (now) husband and I rented a studio, less than 400 sq ft. It was okay but I prefer to have a different bedroom that's not right next to the kitchen.. We lived in a high cost of living area though. It's doable for two! Some people do more. We live in a one bedroom now (though we plan to move next year after baby) and the people below us have an older couple and a younger couple in what I think is an identical one bedroom. Most of our neighbors are not packing that many people into their apartments but I guess they make it work. I've seen a glance of the inside of their place..it's pretty clean too!

I havent lived in a studio before, but I have lived in a teeny dorm, so I know its possible. Its human nature to adjust so I'm sure I would get used to it, if I had to

Nope, I'd for sure go CRAZY. Smallest space I've ever lived in was an 800 sq ft appt I shared w/ hubby before we got married. Now we have 2400 square foot house and I already want bigger.

DH and I lived together in a 290 sq ft. studio apartment for over two years after I graduated from college. It was... interesting :) We had a loft bed and a small couch under the bed. There was little room for "stuff" and we always tripped over things. It wasn't that bad in hindsight.

I lived in a 550 sq ft alcove studio when I was single and lived in Manhattan. I loved it, it was the perfect size for me!
When I moved to Boston to be with my now-husband, I sublet that studio to...a family of 5!!! A husband, wife, and their 3 kids. Real estate in NYC is crazy!

My best apartment in my single days was a studio. It was perfect!! Galley kitchen, bathroom and then a big (well, small!) space with several windows and skylights. It was about 400 square feet in total.

I had an alcove studio in my single days and LOVED it! It was about 400 sf and just perfect. I've lived in four places since (all much larger) and still think back to my perfect little apartment.
If I was single I'd move back in a heartbeat. DH needs a lot more space than I do - I should say his sporting equipment needs more space than I do...haha

I ADORE tiny houses. I wanted to build a 120 square foot house for the hubby and I from tumbleweed houses. They are so cute! http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com I could totally do a studio apartment. (Our current apartment is really tiny anyway)

My sister lives in NY and she recently moved to a studio apt with her husband. It's 400 sq ft. She has a loft which literally fits her bed and nothing else. Now my house is pretty tiny, but it's 3 bed two bath. I don't know how she does it!

The only time that I lived in a studio was my dorm room in college. It was super tiny, but it's college so you deal with it. As a grown up, I want more space and privacy.

Have you ever lived in a studio? Did you like it?
