Nope, my DH keeps bringing "crap" INTO the house (but it is contained to "his spaces"). I call him Sanford (from Sanford and Son) because he ALWAYS brings new material into the garage (and his workshop AND his office) and has side projects going which he never completes. 🤣 (Mind you, I'm the neat freak in the house.) I will state that the poor guy works A LOT and he has ADHD (which explains the gazillion projects which remain unfinished and strewn about) so I keep my expectations fairly low for an epiphany from him that he must clean and organize his space. While I wish he were a bit tidier, he is who he is, and I knew that he was like this when we married... Sadly, the KonMari Method has no appeal to him so 🤷‍♀️ (*shrugs*), I'll be the neat-freak in our union. 😉🤣

When things get cluttered, the only task that comes to mind for him is “grab a trash bag”. My husband is great at throwing things out. Sometimes too good: he’s thrown out important documents and checks. Sometimes he sees an item he can’t identify and just throws it out. He doesn’t like clutter, but he is poor at organizing, and is SO bad at returning things where they belong.

Now with two kids dragging things all over the house too, I got fed up with all the crap that he moves and doesn’t return. So I started leaving it. I still clean up with the kids, but I generally leave his mess. He finally started to “see” some of it and return things.

Overall, he definitely thinks organizing (assigning a home to things) is my job. And I am good at it. But there are times when I’ve given up trying to do it because he proves so poor at actually putting things where they go. I’m hoping we are getting on the right track with that though.

Usually if my DH decides to organize and purge clothes it is after he sees me doing it and feels inspired. Occasionally he’ll feel inspired to organize his electronics and tools. Often after he gets something new.

I was watching “Tidying Up” last weekend while he was in the room and today he started trying her folding method while putting away his laundry.

I didn’t read the article. My DH is great at getting rid of clutter and things we don’t need. I am the one who tends to hold onto things and I’m trying to get better at getting rid of stuff!

I wish my husband was on board with decluttering! He keeps everything, and it’s stressful for me. I feel like I’ve been able to keep our living areas under control, but he has a lot of stuff jammed into our basement and garage. I really try to get him on board, but his whole family really seems to like to hold onto stuff, so it’s probably a losing battle. He’s gotten more receptive over the years to getting rid of items when I specifically go through them one by one, but it’s not something he will ever do on his own.

Yes. But we really got started in July because of the move. We hung drapes in two rooms and organized some kitchen drawers this morning.

Let’s just say my husband has inadvertently benefited from me tidying up. He looked into our medicine/ vitamins/ first aid cupboard in the kitchen and remarked his two shelves was like GNC. Previously all three of us crammed our stuff onto one shelf.

DH hates clutter. Every few months he’ll basically get fed up and go through and organize everything—basement, garage, and entryway are our big ones. I cannot stand clutter but feel like I don’t have as much time to deal with the little things that come home with the girls from school or that people give them. He definitely helps keep me accountable for that kind of stuff by, for example, leaving school papers on the counter which I cannot stand and this have to deal with right away. He’s also the one who takes care of taking out donations, which I collect.

@Anagram: I guess this doesn’t answer your question but DW and I both super got into this! We’ve always gone through spurts but the new show fired us up again to go through the whole house and de-clutter!! Well that and endless snow that requires us to stay home and do something productive 😜

@Anagram: DH is into it and we're making good progress together but it was at my suggestion and I definitely feel like the project manager.

We started with our clothes and then moved to the garage because it was in a state of emergency after Christmas. Once the garage is done I'm afraid DH won't help me with the rest of the house.

DH does all the laundry. I have not attempted the KonMarie folding because I think he needs to initiate that if it is something he is interested in.

It’s actually made me realize what an enabler my DH is to my clutter hoarding! I’ll be like, there is no reason to keep this dust jackets to books, right? And he starts saying “well couldn’t you do something with them, make artwork or something? I like this cover...” so then I second guess getting rid of the wrinkles dust jacket to a book that isn’t even that special to us.

But he is supportive and encouraging of this whole process. He is the one who installed wire shelving in our mudroom closet/ pantry, but I insisted on putting things back in. Also, I’m realizing he just really isn’t as good at organization as he thinks he is. He likes to puzzle everything together to fit as much as possible into a little space, but that means you have to move four items to get to the sugar and then move all four items back when you’re done.

So this is mostly my show and I want it that way so I get to do things my own way. The only downside is I started folding the konmari way and I know he won’t do that right, so It means I’ll be folding all the kids clothes. To his credit he has started folding the towels my way after I showed 😊

My husband LOVES throwing things out but mainly the kids toys, papers, little collections etc. it actually drives me crazy because then the kids are looking for stuff or they see it in the trash and cry. But he will do his closet, the basement, garage, and office himself. Once he did our pantry and I hated it

Marie Kondo has blown up on my FB feed, in my local mommy’s group, and on here. Have your husbands/spouses/partners gotten into decluttering and organizing and throwing things out/rearranging things without you suggesting it?

This article made me question. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/mby8eb/tidying-up-with-marie-kondo-is-inadvertently-about-womens-invisible-labor?utm_source=vicefbus
