Thanks everyone! we ended up going over the holiday weekend. Aside from the extreme heat and long lines it was fun. we got a groupon that combined seaworld with aquatica so we could do both.
Just based on my experience as a child versus now, they have really changed a lot especially with the orcas. I believe only one orca show daily and its very educational focused and not at all like the old ones. I'm glad I took my little ones before they stop the shows altogether.

Aside from the animal shows, there is a sesame street water play area and sesame parade. Overall we are glad we went!

They haven’t been, and I won’t take them unless I read some pretty compelling evidence that they’ve drastically changed their practices.

Yes, it was about 5 years ago. And LO was 2 or barely 3 so she doesn't remember. I felt very conflicted but took her anyway. We sat in the splash zone and the educational exhibits were really, really good- entertaining and informational. I recommend it...... except for the animal rights part. That is hard to reconcile with my conscious and the one reason I have not made plans to go back again.

@Mrsbells: your 2 year old won't need a preschool pass. 2 and under are just free. 3-5 yr olds are free with the preschool pass.

We have annual passes to Sea World and my kids LOVE it. Like @FaithFertility: said, I also remember SW as the "old school" where you could interact with the animals a little more, and as such, I think the shamu show is boring. But the kids love going and getting splashed, the dolphin and sea lion shows are entertaining, as well as pets ahoy for the kids. We probably go once every month or so. We are in the Orlando area, and here the kids area is under construction right now, that doesn't stop the girls from having a great time, though!

We went to the SA one last year (in April so not too busy) when we had a preschool pass and a free kid. We had fun but did not go back this year when the older would have been 6 (not free) even though we were right there again for vacation. We did a couple shows like Sea lions, they loved playing the “always a winner” games where you win a stuffed animal, we spent a little time in the Sesame Street area. There was also a food festival going on which was fun for us adults to get interesting food. We saw the baby orca (who didn’t make it, sad). My younger then 2yo was toast by about 3 and we were all ready to go then. So for just the two adult tickets and having not been to a big park like that with the kids, it was fun once, but I doubt we’ll go back at least until kids are old enough for more rides - it’ll be interesting to see how they evolve the parks.

Absolutely not. I would never support a place like that. But I also won’t take DS to a circus or even a zoo so I know I’m a bit extreme. We are heavily involved in animal welfare.

@Mrsbells: We go to Seaworld all the time! Free passes from being a teacher and LEO! Our kids are free as well DD 3.5 (preschool pass) and DS is 19 months
They won't ask for a BC and honestly I think DD could go free with out her pass, if I tried!

They love it! It is different for me because as a kid I went all the time and am used to the "old" seaworld
Petting dolphins
Shamu show with trainers in water with them etc..
But my KIDS love it!!!!!

Pets Ahoy show is adorable
Sealion show is fun
Shamu show is still neat
Penguins are cool
Shamu Hapoy Harbor area has a bunch of free rides and playground things! 6yr old would love that!

@lindseykaye: Thanks thats helpful! Too bad DD just turned 6 lol. I wonder if I need a birth certificate for DS who is not yet 2? Since he doesnt even need a ticket.
Glad to hear they are improving their practices as a result of all the backlash, its sad when profits come before the well being of their animals

We took our daughter to Sea World and had an amazing time earlier this year. They seem to have done a lot to change their practices in the wake of the backlash and I know they’ve always been leaders in environmental and animal conservation which has only grown since then.
My daughter loved the dolphin nursery, the couple shows we went to, the penguins, and touching the rays the most. I almost wish my hubs and I bought passes to be able to take her back for free more this year.
There is a preschool pass where kids 5 and under get free admission for the year (there and Busch Gardens). You have to sign up online and bring their birth certificate (not a copy) to the gates and get their card. Adult tickets start out pretty reasonable if you buy online a day in advance or more. If you’re local this won’t apply, but if you’re traveling check out some of the hotels right by the park as they can give you free ride fast passes and the one we stayed at was close enough to walk to/from the park and avoid paying for parking or dealing with a shuttle. If you go, have fun!

I'm a bit torn on this, we are deciding what to do for this weekend (very last minute) and one of the options is seaworld. its a bit pricey compared to other options we have i believe tickets start at $64 per person but they have key things I know the kids will love such as the sesame street parade!
I went to seaworld as a child and loved it! However I didnt know at the time all the negative information about how orcas are captured and stressed out in capitivity. Have you taken your little ones to seaworld and was it worth it?
