Growing up, my hometown had Democrats and Republicans, but the Democrats were fairly conservative and the Republicans fairly liberal. I didnt actually understand the difference between them for a long time!</p> <p>I now live somewhere that is fairly moderate as well, but slightly more liberal leaning socially. I am very comfortable with the politics here, probably even more so than where I grew up. People place considerable emphasis on education policy and getting tax breaks and investment to stimulate the local economy. That works for me!</p> <p>Nationally, I've evolved a bit. I think I've come to decide that in an ideal world, I'd like a moderste to conservative president and a decently liberal congress in order to balance each other out. A more reserved President can act as a steady hand against the excesses of public opinion, while a more liberal Cogress can put forth bills to help guarantee rights for all. I think the Senate ideally should be a-partisan or evenly split with a willingness to work across the aisle and the House be more representative of the constituency of the country. I don't remember one discussion in our house that was about economics or health care or anything really outside of abortion and typical anti-gay evangelical Christian stuff. I mean, it wasn't phrased as anti-gay, it was more..."pro traditional family", but now as an adult, I see that for what it is.</p> <p>Anyway, towards the end of HS I definitely started waking up a little and question religion, my parents' views, those opinions. College solidified my opinions. Now I'm a die hard liberal leaning towards modern socialism. Although when it comes to raising children, I'm still very traditional in a lot of ways, I completely 100% support issues like universal one-payer healthcare, free quality public education for all, subsidized child care and university. I believe these things strengthen our nation as a whole. I have trouble seeing how anyone can't see the long game when it comes to those issues. I am also hugely against big government spending/taxes. The only part of their platform I have never agreed with is the legality of abortion. </p>
