@ellewoods84: it may work to do a sticker chart and make it positive. We do stickers to earn a prize whenever there is a behavior we want to curb. If it doesn't work to do a whole dinner for a sticker, go shorter. A sticker every 5 minutes that she stays at the table and work up to a whole meal.

@gotkimchi: yes I was going to say either that, or you could implement our dinner rule: when you get up, you're done. The food goes away. The end.

@Foodnerd81: Ugh super frustrating and annoying :meh:
@gotkimchi: Yeah, we kind of came to this conclusion after dinner tonight. I am sure it will be terrible these next couple nights, but we will just have to ride it out and hope she figures it out. So frustrating! Thanks for the advice.

I would tell her there's no going potty during dinner. Have her go right before dinner and then stick to it. She'll figure it out. I think kids use it as a control thing. So set your boundaries and stick to it. Make her sit at dinner as long as you deem appropriate and then when dinner is done lots of praise for sitting for dinner and then she can use the potty again

We have this but during nap/ quiet time or bedtime. I agree it's more about boredom and attention but I cannot figure out how to avoid it. It's super annoying.

So my 3 year old daughter has been potty trained for around 5 months and lately she has been telling us she has to go poop and/or tinkle during meal times and car trips, even if she has just gone and I know she doesn't need to go. Example: tonight at dinner she peed right before hand and pooped this afternoon, so highly unlikely she poops again during dinner given her normal schedule. Halfway through dinner starts the I have to go poopy cry. I tell her to finish eating and then we can go. She of course has to go RIGHT NOW so I take her and of course she doesn't go. We go sit down to finish eating and 2 minutes later, I have to go poopy....I have to go tinkle....repeat. I'm pretty sure she's just doing it because she doesn't want to eat anymore or is bored or whatever. She does the same thing in the car. We can go poop and pee and literally 5 min later she is back there hysterical about having to go. It's getting really exhausting and I'm losing my patience. Any ideas how to address this? Or I guess how we can handle it? I don't want her to not want to tell me she has to go, and we definitely don't want a power struggle, but at the same time she's barely eating and driving anywhere is a nightmare. Thanks all!
