If your mom has time, do you think she can make you some lactation cookies? This recipe is my favorite: http://www.food.com/recipe/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-lactation-cookies-by-noel-trujillo-192346

Good luck!

Lots of water, and make sure you're eating enough. Hospital meals are based off calories for a standard person, but a breastfeeding mom need 300-500 more a day at minimum.

Also, make sure you're pumping through the night. It sucks to have to wake up at 2 am, but it's an important pump.

Good! I hope the motrin works out for you. I just ordered More Milk Plus off amazon last week and it is freaking amazing for my supply. I keep wondering why in the hell I didn't order it last year when I had so many supply issues with my son. I'd try doing all things mentioned in previous posts, eat oatmeal, lots of water, etc.

I had a postpartum stroke at 8 weeks and had to take an antiplatelet drug for four weeks that was not compatible with nursing. I pumped and dumped every 2ish hours both in the hospital and once I got home, from 7 AM through until 1 AM, for that month. This kept my supply up enough that I could resume nursing after a month (though getting my baby back into it has been a whole different story).

@Dandelion: Percocet is ok for nursing, I took it after my c-section. And it can be taken in conjunction with motrin.

ETA: maybe it's too similar to the Loratab.

Talked to the PA and she's on board with me just taking motrin and working to get my supply up. I'm feeling a lot better (not 100%) so they're willing to work with me a little more now.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! I have no real advice except maybe try pumping more often if possible? And definitely look into Fenugeek, Mother's Milk Plus, oatmeal, etc to help boost your supply. I hope you're able to recover it! <3

I was reading on the lactmed app and the loratabs they've been giving me is the culprit! Totally drying me up. No more of that!

My supply took a hit when I was sick/taking unsafe meds. I drank to a of water, ate a lot of lactation cookies, and nursed as much as I could (I could nurse six hours after taking the medication each night) and it came back up. It was stressful. I hope you start feeling better soon!

@anandam: thanks for letting me know about that app! Morphine is definitely a no no but I'll try and get the lc to advocate for better pain relief options.

Only thing I'd add is to ask somebody on staff to show you in writing that the medication you're on is actually unsafe for breastfeeding, or download the app LactMed for yourself and check. I've heard so many cases of women being told they had to dump without actual indication. LactMed is put out by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Most narcotics are just fine.

@Dandelion: I don't have any specific advice but from what I understand supply isn't well established until twelve weeks so you should still be able to get your supply back up again.

Hope you're back to full health soon!!

I had to pump and dump for 48 hours after an MRI two weeks ago. My supply definitely took a hit, but with lots of water and a few extra pumping sessions here and there, it has recovered. I would say it took a week and a half to get it back.

I was worried about my supply, and before I left the hospital the LCD gave me a handout about increasing supply. Feenugreek, mothers milk tea, etc, but the thing that worked amazingly was a "power hour." You do it for an hour, pump ten minutes, rest ten minutes. It simulates a growth spurt! Give that a try :)

Could you see a lactation specialist when you get out/done? Maybe they could help you build back up your supply? Drink lots of water, do skin to skin, etc? I know its possible, it'll be a lot of work though. Best of luck!!

Because of the pain meds I'm on in the hospital, I'm having to pump and dump. M is getting formula in the meantime. I'm pumping every 4 hours but each time I get less and less. I just pumped now and there was barely anything. :(

My mom is gonna bring M by in the morning so I'll nurse him before I get any more narcotics...just to see if he can help me.

In the meantime, I gotta wean off these meds.

Anyone have success stories to share if you've been through this??
